I'm not sure how old he is, but I heard him use the word 'newfangled' one time, so he's gotta be pretty far gone.

hip deep in pie

A question for the UKers: Someone just sent me a vacancy for a contract as an Assistant Archivist with the National Theatre Archives. I'm considering applying. But how good/crappy is 19,000 Pounds for a salary? I know the cost of living in London is insane, is that doable?

Ficht nicht mit Der Raketemensch!

It's liveable, but not good. After tax that's about £1500 a month. You can get a room in a houseshare in an OK bit of London (I think) for £500 or so. Then you'll need £80 or so for a travelcard. Actually, it's a fairly good salary for a public sector job.

Lurching from one disaster to the next.

Thanks for the info on Denton, John.

So hands up who thought the girl last night, was going to be a Sunnydale version of the Turkish and German girls?

"Fuck Western ideologically-motivated gender identification!" Sulu gasped, and came.

I was on £20,000 when I was down in London 2 years ago. I lived in a house share. It's not going to be a luxurious existence, but it's doable, and I bet it'd be a cracking job. Plus, if it's actually at the National Theatre, that's a lovely bit of London. One of my favourites. On the other hand, it's Zone One, I think, so that's going to cost you a lot in travel expenses. Pros and cons.

Well, hello fellow unAmericans, especially you overseas unAmericans.

You see, it is all your fault. What, you ask? Okay, it's not your fault I went to Sugar Mountain. I had a craving, I bought candy. But it is your fault I am now the proud (?) owner of a package of Tim Tams. I haven't tried them yet, but I will bite the ends off and suck some coffee through them, as I have heard is the proper way to eat them.

But I just wanted you all to know. Your. Fault.

Let me just say that popularity with people on public transportation does not equal literary respect. --Jesse
