You weren't the only one, it turns out, RL.
It felt weird and off, pacing- and characterization-wise, all the way through. The final scene was pretty, but like Jess I'm at this point kind of bored of Spike, and definitely anti-B/S, so... didn't exactly save the episode for me.
I didn't notice anything about the pacing, which normally means that it's good; the charactrization seemed fine, good even; and being bored with Spike is as completely alien to me as not liking elves. But YepisodeMV. And I should note that I'm basically pro-B/S. Though not 'Spuffy', heaven help us.
Am-Chau, take note:
I agree with you.
Huh, I thought the pacing in "Beneath Me" was better than in many of last season's eps. It all felt right to me, although the Willow&Giles scene did seem a bit out of place, if only because it was the only non-Sunnydale scene. I'm very much looking forward to Willow's return, by the way.
Angus, I've bookmarked your post. I'll remember it this time, I promise you.
Oh, and I no longer count myself as a Buffy/Spike 'shipper, but I'm fascinated with what's going on with Spike right now, and so I was totally sucked in by that last scene (distraction from being spoiled aside, did I mention I'm bitter about that?).
Spike's current journey is fanscinating- and, despite what some people would say, I think the things (there are bound to be some, right?) that happen to him because he has a soul will be more, not less, intresting because we have Angel to compare to.
I must admit I didn't think it was a particularly good episode until the final scene. (Come to think of it, I thought the same about last week's.) But Spike's "Can we rest now...can we rest...". Shivers. Still.
