We're not lost. We're standing. right. here.
Yay! Scotland does the dance of joy :-)
What BHP said. The worst excesses of what we would nowadays call human rights violations have been cleaned up in most of Europe. But on the other side of the coin, that's another reason Americans are shocked and disgusted when anti-semitism and racism and junk like that crop up again in France and Russia. Brings back a lot of bad memories, and among some folks I know an unfortunate tendency to say "The hell with learning about the Europeans, they're still stuck in the same old grooves, and why should we listen to a word they say about _____?"
Mmm, Timbits look great.
I had an eclair up there that was amazing.
For example my Grandfather was a tanner who fled Russia after killing a Cossack. I'd like to know more - but that is the complete extent of the family story.
If you have any information at all, you can probably find more. Was he a bundist? They kept some records. If you know the year he came, or even the approximate year, and what port he came into, you might be able to find records. (Of course, a lot of it depends on the town he came from. There are some branches of my family where I can only trace them back to the boat, because the town records are just gone.)
edit: if it was Ellis Island, the best place to start might be here.
Re the earlier discussion about the mythology blah blah...
... just to throw the vampire amongst the virgins ... BtVS owes more to Asian vamp mythology/bullshit than it does to European, since it is a rip-off of an Anime title. Just saying, y'know.
Of course, it also owes more to Phlobotin mythology than anything else.

Didn't the 1992 Buffy precede the anime?
Which anime?
If you are talking about cute high school girls killing monsters, while that is practically its whole genre...

No, the Anime goes back a long way before '92.

I realise that but there is one title in particular (the name of which escapes me) that bears closest resemblance to the concept of BtVS. It was first mentioned way back on the first TT thread[s]. I'd have to ask a mate of mine if he knows what it the particular title is b/c he knows more about Anime than me. I'm not a big fan of the genre -- and have become even less of a fan thanks to the likes of Pokemon and Dragonball Z et al.
