Fay, that was dandy.
"She liked to watch Judge Judy and provide a running commentary on how Wolfram and Hart would handle the cases. She'd sneak in while I was away and do my laundry, then rearrange my dresser drawers so that I'd find socks when looking for my trousers. She had excellent taste in everything from clothing to books to armaments, and appalling taste in popular entertainment. How do I reconcile that woman with the woman who nearly got the lot of us killed any number of times for the sheer joy of it?"
Damn. That's beautiful. I know that others have commented, but, damn. That's a
relationship
ain't it?
As for titles and if Wes should smile or be happy to see the dawn... See, dawn may break and you can face it joyfully or mournfully - but it will break. Tomorrow will come - it doesn't care how you feel. And isn't that the point? That you just keep on keeping on?
I have a title, in fact.
(I am heads down editing thanks to Deb's wonderful beta pass, but I HAVE A TITLE.)
Closing Time. Thank you, Mr. Cohen.
"Yeah I missed you since the place got wrecked
By the winds of change and the weeds of sex
looks like freedom but it feels like death
it's something in between, I guess
it's closing time"
Good, a useful beta pass.
Oh yes, on the title. One of the best of his, Plei.
If I do leg three of the Amanda trilogy, I may yet be swerved from Shakespeare (A Bright Particular Star) to Phil Ochs (There But For Fortune).
Which reminds me, when my body is functional again, I owe Betsy a CD burn of my collected Ochs.
I love Leonard.
I attempt to pimp whenever possible. Closing Time used to be on about 2/3s of all mixes I'd make. The older I get, the more I like it, which is kind of scary, given my attachment to the song at the tender age of 19/20.
Do you remember the video? Chock-full of Canadian actors.
It's partner found and it's partner lost and it's hell to pay when the fiddler stops.
Yeah. And he had one for 'The Future' (directed by Rebecca DeMornay - his girlfriend at the time) wherein he was being drenched by rain.
See, this is why CanCon is a
good
thing.
I had no cable access when it would have been running (pouts).
Ah well.
Elena, if we're talking videos for to die for Canadians, I got two words: Bruce Cockburn.
Which video? "If I Had a Rocket Launcher" and "If a Tree Falls in the Forest" are the only two I can recall. I'm not entirely fond of Mr. Cockburn as a singer. I think that the BNL version of "Lovers in a Dangerous Time" is much better.
You know what song I heard for the first time in probably 10 years? The Pursuit of Happiness "I'm an Adult Now", which is just fucking hilarious.
I can't write songs about girls anymore
I have to write songs about women.
