I am getting a blank display on my 2nd gen Nano. It still plays, but I can't see to navigate. Googling tells me it's a common problem, but there doesn't seem to be a solution, and different websites say it's a firmware probelm, others say it's a bad display.

Here's the thing, when I turn it on after being asleep for a while, or after connecting with iTunes, I am guaranteed a white screen. If I let it play for a while, like an hour or so, without playing with the click wheel, the menu comes back, but there's no guarantee that the menu will be there the next time I turn it on.

Rebooting and restoring haven't helped at all.

I guess I'm trying to figure out the root of the problem. Do it sound like a loose connection? Or some wonky operating problem? I was leaning toward loose connection, but I just got the screen back after letting play while sitting flat on my desk for an hour, and I don't see why letting it play while still would help with a loose connection. I am confused and frustrated and wanting to vent more than anything.

Hey, iPhone users, I want to back up the contacts in my phone. If I sync with an empty Outlook folder, will it overwrite the phone with nothing or put the contacts in the folder. Is there somewhere in the options that I can choose which is the master?

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

Recommendations for laptop...cooling things? Ideally, I'd rather not have one that plugs into the USB port to pull power, but I will happily look at anything that works well.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Someone needs to invent a laptop cooling rig that uses kinetic energy for fans. Maybe four fans with flip-out keys you can wind up the springs and flip back into the case.

The status is NOT quo.

Vortex, I'm not sure, but there are some great iPhone forums that could probably answer that question. I will try to track one down in the morning.

grr. My MacBook is not wanting to turn on the Airport. When I try, it just sits in spinny land. And the logo in the menu bar stays highlighted. I have an appointment at the Genius Bar tomorrow, but that doesn't help today. Any thoughts? It has been a little wonky with start and shutdown. Wonky as in, takes forever. This is a 4 month old MacBook (not shiny new non-firewire one) running 10.5.5.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

How peculiar. My Mac lost the network printer in the middle of me printing single pages from my browser. I hunted through applications and found out that it was trying to print to a 169.x.y.z IP address instead of the 192.168.a.b one. I went into the Printer Setup Utility and the Show Info option and typed in the right IP address and it started working again.

Bwuhuh? Anyone know if I did something wrong to make it get lost in the first place?
