Ha. That is kinda funny.
In boneheaded move of the, well, week or so, the jack where my laptop's power plugs in has been giving me trouble for some time. Before vacation, I looked up the repair info so I could send it in. Then I decided I'd wait until after vacation so I could have it with me to surf.
Thereby waiting until three days after the warranty expired.
I == idiot.
Particularly since I have a second laptop that would have worked just fine just for surfing over the holiday. This, otoh, is my main work laptop which I need, for, you know, working.
Now I have to dig out and see if I bought any extra coverage from the dealer. But it's ridiculous to me because my previous repair was done so well and easily by Sony, and now I have to wrestle.
Or possibly pay about $300.
I dusted out my computer.
When I turned it on, the noise started up again, but after ten or twenty seconds, it's disappeared. Must have been shaking off the last bits of dust. I think my computer is normal-quiet now. Which is nice.
Except now I'm all dusty.
Anyone else picturing P-C walking in the saloon, the flippy 1/4 doors flippy shut behind him. Spurs a jangling.
Maybe I've been in TX too long.
"I'm looking for—*cough*—the man who—*cough*—shot my—*cough*—oh, forget it."
Aargh. I spoke too soon. There's still a noise, but it's not as loud. And it's very repetitive. It may be getting louder as time goes on; I think it was fainter yesterday. I guess I have to dust the fans even better? Would oil help? I read that a drop of the right oil can improve fan performance and noise.
I would just isolate and replace the fan. Typically it's like a $5.00 part.
Any recommendations for a not-too-expensive TV, say 30" or bigger? $300 to $600?
Damn, I haven't priced TVs in a while....
We bought a 32" Samsung on sale from J&R for under just $600 and have been really happy with it.
I would just isolate and replace the fan.
According to some page on the Internet, I can do that by sticking something into the blades of each fan for a second to see if the noise stops? That's safe?
Typically it's like a $5.00 part.
Is there anything special to consider? I like this one. For fun. Or there are these cheaper ones. I guess I have to see what size the fan is. Do all fans have the ribbon connectors? I guess they need to get the power to run from somewhere.
