"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Joss isn't doing Wonder Woman.

I kinda figured that was going to happen when they didn't like his original script.

You can't leave me to my own devices; my devices are Nap and Eat. -Zenkitty

You know, if he's not doing Wonder Woman, the dude needs to gett off his ass and do some friggin' thing (said respectfully, of course), because my world has been Joss-project-less for TOO FRIGGIN' LONG.

IJS.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Goners, it seems.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

He got fired from his best shot at a franchise which he could leverage into other movies. If he'd done what Singer had done for X-Men or Raimi for Spider-Man or Nolan for Batman he'd be a freakin' mini-mogul this decade.

Now he's gonna be writing comic books for a while.

Actually, there's an upside. Between this and Serenity's relative box office failure, he'll probably have to come back to TV - where I prefer him anyway.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Well, he's been writing AXM and Runaways.

What do you think he did wrong that Singer/Raimi/Nolan did right?

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Impossible to make an informed guess, but based on the motif of Joss' work in general maybe too much emphasis on feminist themes for studio heads that are very invested in putting teen male rears into seats via explosions and boobs? I suspect they were wanting something that would fit Jessica Alba type actresses and Joss was giving them something more akin to Elizabeth Cady Stanton in eagle insignia battle armor.

I don't think he had a bead on it the way he personally had on X-Men or many other comics he grew up with.

Wonder Woman - despite her long history - didn't really come into focus as something other than an icon until George Perez's run on her in the 80s. (Not counting the Emma Peel inspired powerless time in the early 70s, which I always liked.)

I think most of the best WW comics came out in the nineties or later and unless he was going to adapt The Hiketeia then he didn't have anything to work off of. She's an icon, but her core mission was sort of muddy until the last fifteen years.

So he was creating her from scratch except he's really hemmed in on all sides. And the canon wasn't as deep as others (like Batman or Superman) so he couldn't cherry pick the continuity for the best stuff (like the Diniverse cartoons did).

Nowadays I think she's a great character. But Joss is always going to be a Marvel guy, I think.

I don't think anyone has a bead on her moviewise. She's not as easy a translation as the icons, or as the X-Men. She's going to be redone for the screen, and when you're starting nearly from scratch...well, was the studio even starting from the same scratch?
