I don't give a shit what the arguments were, they are not going to let out a pedophile murderer from prison. Further, wasn't it in Florida where they messed up and didn't execute people correctly and had to re-attempt? We have precedent for that here.
Yeah, that really bothered me as well. I also cannot imagine that the government would capitulate to his threats to sue (little concept called executive privilege, where the official is indemnified from personal liability for rightfully executed functions of office).

I was somewhat bewildered by all the assassination attempts and gun-pointing. But, okay, given that it's still going to hurt, waving a gun around is an effective threat.
I had more difficulty with them grinning smugly over the flaming remnants of a helicopter that presumably held bits of several never-dying people.

I wasn't expecting the characters to be upset. I think there's a tone problem when we go from "check out the horrific explodo-corpse that keeps blinking" to "but blowing shit up is cool as long as we don't see the aftermath." If I'm supposed to take the situation seriously, casual carnage doesn't play so well.
