A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

"Cry havoc and let slip the boobs of war!" -- Miracleman

due South has ghosts. And magic snow.

but are they random episode elements or an essential part of the show? (edited for clarity)

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

His father shows up pretty damn often, and in later seasons, lives in a closet in Fraser's office.

ETA: And is dead at the time.

thanks for the clarification. I was thinking "okay, his father visits, so?"

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Plus there is a fat streak of magic realism in the show, in general. Even if it weren't grandfathered in, it would still end up being vociferously argued in.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Note that Frobisher could also see the elder Fraser's posthumous appearances, so they weren't just a hallucination of Benton's.

My favorite thing about the magic snow was that none of it stuck to Fraser after that fall from an airplane in the finale. He was just standing undusted atop the snowbank when Ray K finally dug himself out of his impact crater.

Yeah. Pretty much what they said. Various things that we'd count as fantasy are SOP reality in dS. Ghosts, spirits, magical snow, lip reading wolves...

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

...implausibly amusing secondary characters, a team of Mountie cadets re-building and manning a life-size working replica of the HMS Bounty, Russian nuclear subs, FRASER'S MOM BEING HIS GIRLFRIEND IN ANOTHER SHOW.

Seriously. BBC4 had a due South marathon the Saturday after Christmas, and I was watching "Call of the Wild" and flailing, and at the end, Fraser's mom is Ellen from Slings & Arrows. Boy was that disconcerting.

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

FRASER'S MOM BEING HIS GIRLFRIEND IN ANOTHER SHOW.

And played by his wife, to boot.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Hahaha. I haven't watched past S2 of dS yet, but Ellen from S&A was played by Paul Gross's wife, Martha Burns. I can't decide if that casting is slightly ooky or weirdly charming. I'm leaning toward the latter.

Yeah, that's new information to me. I just thought Canada was really small.

In other news, have ya'll seen this piece of awesomeness: [link] Fans doing a live-action fourth season of Star Trek, with absolutely stunning graphics (seriously! I was gap-jawed at how good they were!), fully re-created, life-size sets, and just general awesome all around. Of course, the acting leaves something to be desired, but then again, you have to give the fanboys credit.
