I am so sorry for anyone who flew yesterday. They say today is better, but still.
Natter 46: The FIGHTIN' 46
Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
I'm so glad I don't have to get on a plane anytime soon. My sympathies to those who have to travel for whatever reason.
Ima go with caveman. If someone has to kill to eat, I'm going to assume they're going to be better at it than someone who doesn't.
Late to the party, but on this...
Question to wrap up the afternoon: what is your favorite restaurant?
I offer the following two: Dali (and warning, that site has sound) and Redbones, both in Somerville (waves to Somervillians, current and former).
I've had better meals at some fairly high end places in Boston, NY and Portland, but these are my two comfort restaurants (for different kinds of comfort). Tapeo, the sister restaurant of Dali on Newbury Street in Boston, is an acceptable substitute.
Oh and, going farther afield in Maine, Primo (though that link is being a pain).
In the Name of All That's Holy, Shut Up! — A Guide for Those Not of the World, While Living in It
This sheer genius of an idea sparked a very interesting discussion between Fella and me last night...and a new catch phrase for us both.
"In the Name of All That's Holy!" is the new "Hush YOU!" It makes us giggle.
And? It would be a terrific seminar...I see Oprah tie ins, magazine columns and a great future for sincere faith management skills.
Caveman or Astronaut--what possible weapons does each start out with? That's the whole thing for me.
If you're throwing a caveman, unarmed, at a former military guy, unarmed...well, the military isn't that well trained in hand to hand combat. That's why the centre does a fair chunk of training. No way we're getting everyone in the Air Force and...I think it's Army.
I'm amazed it took 24 hours... [link]
Aren't astronauts mostly pilots and engineers, anyway? Not to say they wouldn't be trained, but hand-to-hand is not their main concern in life.
I am so fucking tired, after staying up ridiculously late reading last night. I blame the Excederin I took yesterday morning. If I have an actual migraine, nothing can keep me awake, but otherwise, any extra caffeine fucks with me so bad.
That is what I blame for the fact that I just wrote a letter to the editor of the free paper, wondering why it was OK to have the words "shit" and "fuck" in a cartoon on the editorial page but not in a quote from The Big Lebowski on the next page.
Are we definitely assuming hand-to-hand combat? Because if the astronaut comes with a spaceship, he can just blast the caveman from space before it even becomes an issue.
We might also want to consider that modern humans are considerably larger than the average caveman, which would give the astronaut the advantage.
Part of the problem is that "caveman" isn't defined. If you're talking paleolithic humans... they weren't hunting with their bare hands. Before bows there were slings and spears.
The other part of the problem is that nothing else is defined, either.
Yes. It's really about the assumptions and expectations that the people arguing about AvC bring to the debate. It's a Zen thing - to think about AvC is to discover yourself.
standing in the corner with Jesse on the way too tired. too much energy last night. this morning? nsm.
