You know, I used to look at pictures of babies and think "Yeah, cute, but yo see one baby you've seen them all". But the mopre newborns I've seen, the more I am struck by how individual each one is, even with the characteristics that they all do have in common. Which is to say, that Peter, what a cutie! And the rest of the family.
You make a good point, Corwood, Alma has been awful to Ellsworth, but I thought they'd had some genuine tender moments as well (not porn, just nice little human moments). I had forgotten about his wife and child, that makes the whole thing make a lot more sense.

I know that she and Franny are about the same age, but it's striking how similar they are in looks.
