Buffy: So how'd she get away with the bad mojo stuff? Anya: Giles sold it to her. Giles: Well, I didn't know it was her. I mean, how could I? If it's any consolation, I may have overcharged her.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh, did "useful" mean "at a social level"? I was thinking in more individual terms. That does help me understand some of the earlier posts better, I think.

Yeah, I think that was the distinction I wasn't making as well. Really, it's all just like the dirt/food thing -- dirt is not useful to me when I am hungry. That doesn't make it unnecessary.

I am not doing laundry today. I can make it through the week without it, and I could even theoretically do it after work, so there.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

I have done nothing useful yet today, since this morning was devoted to brunch and then a trip to the Live Oak Park fair, where I bought many earrings (some will be gifts) and didn't buy the expensive necklace that was calling my name. I believe a nap may be in order soon, and then maybe some laundry organizing and grocery list making.

Socks are a running theme throughout the series. They are used as symbols of freedom, redemption and love.

Blech. I'm studying for another actuarial exam and this one turns out to be non-mathy. There's only so many essays on the history of the profession I can read at one sitting without getting homicidal urges.

To make it even more fun, this is a new exam/online course and they didn't get it done in time to offer at the usual time (November or May), so it's going to be at the end of August and I get to study all summer. oh boy.

Sophia! How are you doing? Did you end up being allergic to that anti-biotic? How's everything healing, now?

Yes, I was allergic, and I was taken off. Today is my first itch free day! I am now pretty much infection free, which sort of means that my bites look like a normal wound, if it had happened yesterday. I think I am going to have one really nasty scar on my leg. My ankle, while not still infected still has some issues in a range of movement way, but those are supposed to get better.

What is even happening?

I'm glad you're doing so much better. I still can't get over the whole situation.

I guess I see it useful even at a social level, because I think it's psychologically useful. Some people (the artists) have stuff inside they need to express. Other people are psychologically affected by the results of the first people's expression. Music can calm or stimulate; it can inspire, or interest, or evoke, or console. Actually, literature, visual art, and the performing arts do that, too.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

Luckily, when I was bit, I was steps away from the kitchen sink, so the bitten finger got washed thoroughly and immediately, and bandaged up. Believe me I'll be on the lookout for signs of infection! (And discovered, when I changed bandaids to one better suited to fingertips, that in fact it was three small punctures, two to the pad and one in the gutter between the side and the nail. It's throbby but not too annoying.)

In the meantime, I've been sitting out on the patio, enjoying the afternoon and devouring a Barbara Hambly book and feeling more peaceful than I've felt in a week or two. There's been enough sunshine that I had to put up the patio umbrella.

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

oh joy! Oh Rapture ! I have a brain!

I 've been thinking aobut the art thing- first the basic start of the conversation. really rich person - finding the disapline to do something - esp. in the art world which is more self driven = a really really good thing. And the more I thought about it, I can't make a distinction between doing art or running some sort of a foundation. DH - is good a makeing and creating things . I would do better running a scholarship fund. Just makeing sure all the pieces happen. because I am good at that, if I care about the project.

Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I do think that sucessful artists either come from a background of wealth, where they don't have to be sucessful in order to eat or from poverty, where they already haven't eaten, and are therefore willing to take the risk, because, well why not. I do admit this is based on a sample of 5 from my graduating theatre class. Growing up lower middle class in the seventies and eighties makes (me anyway) to security needing to take any big jump. (however, it may make me a perfect audience for Freaks and Geeks)
