President Bush arrived here Monday to face an awkward political situation about which his brother is mincing no words: the candidacy of Representative Katherine Harris for the United States Senate.
White House aides said Ms. Harris, a Florida Republican, would be on hand to greet Mr. Bush when he landed in Tampa on Tuesday morning en route to a talk about the new Medicare prescription drug benefit.
But on Monday the president's brother, Gov. Jeb Bush, raised new doubts about Ms. Harris's ability to unseat Senator Bill Nelson, a Democrat, in the fall election.
"I just don't think she can win," Governor Bush told reporters. "It's just that's she's not gained any traction, and it seems that, unfortunately through no fault of her own perhaps, the press coverage is all about the problems in her campaign."
Some Republicans have expressed worries that Ms. Harris, who became nationally known while overseeing the presidential recount of 2000 as secretary of state in Florida, remains a polarizing figure and could galvanize Democrats to vote against her.
It just delights me that the Republicans have abandoned her. Hee.
I just met a couple of Chicago's finest. They were quite pleasant and kinda cute. Too bad I was unshowered and still in my jammies.
Is there a real Point Mugu?
The internets think so.
Trudy, I don't think anyone answered your question about PB:
As far as I could tell, he got him to cooperate by pulling a weapon. I think Pope didn't fight back because he doesn't think Michael's a bad person. That and he doesn't need to be a hero.
My fave part of PB? The
guard who said "I'm not a hero for $14 an hour."
Very honest sentiment.
Aurelia, why did you meet the nice policemen?
I'm sure the policemen thought Aurelia was mighty cute and pleasant in her jammies.
I called them because my upstairs neighbors woke me with their fighting and the wife was screaming.
Nicer jammies for occasions just like this, then, aurelia. I hope the situation was resolved smoothly.
Wow. Trying to remember Worzel Gummidge totally sprains the brain. Without googling, Catweazel was brought forward in time, somehow. Why do I think that Worzel was a scarecrow?

Student suspended for singing 'threatening' song
A Gwinnett County high school student has been suspended after a teacher accused her of singing a threatening song in class.
Beth Ann Cox, 16, admits singing the song, which is a morbid spoof of "On top of Ol' Smokey," but she denies any wrongdoing.
The lyrics that alarmed the teacher were: "On Top of Ol' Smokey, all covered with blood, I shot my poor teacher with a .44 slug."
The junior at Peachtree Ridge High School said she learned the song in grade school and sang it to another student in her German class. The teacher apparently overheard the ditty, felt threatened and reported the girl to school administrators.
That was one of the songs we sang on the bus on grade school field trips. "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall" is more threatening.
