Whenever I see Cedric I imagine Daniel Radcliffe complaining about his craxy fans and I have a little chuckle.
Literary Buffistas 3: Don't Parse the Blurb, Dear.
There's more to life than watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer! No. Really, there is! Honestly! Here's a place for Buffistas to come and discuss what it is they're reading, their favorite authors and poets. "Geez. Crack a book sometime."
I didn't mind the sex scenes in the Lehane books.
Like I said, I think there's something wrong with me. I was wondering if I was getting prudish in my old age. But I don't think that's it, since I have no qualms about actual sex taking place in the world. I just don't want to read about it in the middle of a mystery/murder maybe? Idunno.
javachik, I can see that, but I think I read the books more for Kenzie and Gennaro's relationship than for the mysteries.
In a mystery series, though, the protagonists are going to grow and change as the books progress, and part of the lure for me is always seeing their lives as "real people" outside of the job.
Then again, sex scenes don't bother me unless they're completely gratuitous and pointless. And even then, if they're super hot, whoo.
Yeah, I am not saying he shouldn't write them or that you guys shouldn't enjoy them. Just that I don't.
And also object to the term bodice-ripper as hopelessly outdated.
I didn't know people actually used that term unless they were trying to insult a book and/or genre.
Breaking Dawn is...well, it's icky. And I read books with dismemberments.
As always, I love erika.
I'm with you, javachick. I'm usually thinking, somewhat literally, "Come on, come on. Get back to the story."
Tep, thanks, but I'm hard to gross out...that one did it. But I was twisted enough to drink a Slurpee during some of the parts. Then, it pissed me off...love-struck, starry-eyed teens don't need to be exposed to that much of Steph Meyer's psyche...it ain't right. That was all Too Much for me, and I've been in therapy...I know what metaphors are and how to approach media with a critical eye and what-have-you.
javachik, I'm sorry if I made it sound like I was trying to convince you, everyone is looking for something different in a book.
I know the time has passed, but I hate the word "fanficcer". Or lack of a word.
