Well, it's just good to know that when the chips are down and things look grim you'll feed off the girl who loves you to save your own ass!

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Tear-inducing WMV

I've seen that a couple of times (ESPN covered it, as did the CBS Evening News), and it's just amazing.

For those who didn't watch, it's about an autistic high school kid who was the team manager for the basketball team. In the team's last game, they decided to add him to the roster to show their appreciation. He's a well-liked kid, so when they put him in the game, the crowd cheered. When he then reeled off 6 three-point shots, and scored twenty points, the crowd went nuts. You gotta wonder if the coach is thinking, "Man, I should've done this sooner."

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Actually, it was the kid manning the wrecking ball that set me off. Which softened me up for the we shall defend without powers thing. By the time Granny showed up it was too late.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

I wonder if there were any parents in the crowd going "RU-DY! RU-DY!" like I would have wanted to.

My parents are going to see BBM tonight. Which is marvellous. They tried to go yesterday. It was sold out. Totally marvellous. Makes me sniffly too.

Found out a teen relative is in the psych ward. Completely unmarvellous.

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

It's pulled in over $75 million domestic so far. Today's box office will probably push it past Philadelphia, and it may have outsold The Talented Mr. Ripley by next weekend.

We're very stretchy. - Connie Neil

That was a wonderful clip! The reaction of the crowd to his getting on the court reminds me of the season-ending game up at Marquette my sophmore year. Willy, who was the team's walk-on, no scholarship, and very little court time, was graduating that year, and by the last five minutes of the game, all the students were chanting "Willy, Willy," just like in Rudy, only this was in 1986 and years before that movie was made. When he finally got onto the court for the last few minutes, the place went wild, and he did end up with a basket or two (not 20 points, though!).

The article that made me cry this morning was about the speedskater whose grandpa had a heart attack and died the day before her race, just a little bit before she arrived to visit with him and the rest of her family in Italy. [link]

I really shouldn't be allowed to read sad stuff unless I've been awake a few hours.

My apartment smells like pinesol and the laundry is done. Need to make a trip to Target. I should also pick up lemon pinesol. I apparently grabbed the wrong one and now...well, I think pinesol smells like elementary school bathrooms.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I did some general kitchen sorting and straightening. Time soon to go back and start in on the Greased Lightning portion of the festivities. Later there will be vacuuming. In fact, the sooner there is vacuuming, the sooner I can get the cats to go hide instead of demanding an early supper....
