'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I did some general kitchen sorting and straightening. Time soon to go back and start in on the Greased Lightning portion of the festivities. Later there will be vacuuming. In fact, the sooner there is vacuuming, the sooner I can get the cats to go hide instead of demanding an early supper....

Why did Darth Vader cross the road? To get to the Dark Side!

ita, thanks for reminding that I need to use my Lucy coupon today to buy new pants. Also, the pizza places are Kristina's (on Overland) and Julie's (on Palms). I think they both deliver but I'm not sure because they are so close to us we just pick up. Julie's has a thinner crust. I think Kristina's is the better all around pizza, but I really like Julie's margarita (the pie, not the drink).

Our pipes are misbehaving. We tried snaking, but I think we are just going to need to call the plumber. feh. The only upside is we'll probably need to go out to dinner just to avoid more pile up in the kitchen.

According to a friend on LJ, Octavia Butler has died. Damn it, she was so young, really, and could have had so much more good writing to do.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Oh no! Octavia Butler was not at all old. Sad.

Did someone hack bon bon's account?!?

For some reason, my cat currently things that sitting upright in my lap is the good plan. I don't know why.

Also, I should be doing my reading for class tomorrow, but ugh.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Octavia! No, she wasn't done. She wasn't nearly done. I don't like today, not at all.

BBM is still selling out theaters?

This is in Jamaica, the first weekend it was open (I think they start the movie week Tuesday or Wednesday). There was some question about it opening in Jamaica at all, and there was quite the littte homophobic furor. I figured my mother would see it, but not really my father. Turns out he's curious, and as my mother pointed out, it's better to see it with her than alone or with any of his domino buddies. So they're giving it another shot today. Cuteness.

My father asked why he should see the movie. I told him it was very well done. He asked why he should see "a gay movie" and this is where I think the whole "it's not a gay movie" has some weight. I told him to set aside any preconceptions he might be attaching to "gay" and go see a movie where two guys fall in love. If you go in braced with "gay! it's gay!" you're just not being open to the story. Unless of course "it's gay!" is a big pull, but even then.

It's a movie where two guys fall in love. The conflict is tied to the homosexuality, so it's not like it's some utopian world where it's not a factor. But your average Jamaican (which my father is not, otherwise he wouldn't be going to see it) is going to imagine effeminacy, cross-dressing, lisping, and 90 minutes of buttsex.

It's a movie about people. Go look and see what kind of people.

I made a girl cry in class today, and hit another one (she hadn't even signed up yet) in the face. the weepy girl was having a day, but when I finished working with her and the tears started welling and she turned away I sprinted for the lead teacher and asked him to go check on her. Another junior assistant explained to me that I was kinda terrifying at first glance.

I went over to the crying girl again later to tell her that her body was too tense and she started crying again. She was really upset that she couldn't not cry, but I think I didn't make it any worse. She was just having a day.

The girl I hit in the face (glancing blow, honest) took it very well (and it helped make the point I was trying to illustrate), and I think she signed up for membership. She'll make a good student.

Octavia Butler! Damn. My cousin's in the psych ward, my head feels like cotton from too much anti-migraine medication and...blah. Not good day.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Did someone hack bon bon's account?!?

I was passing on some information I learned today from the buffistas yahoo group spam.
