"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

speaking of breakfast foods, I had the yummiest brunch on Sunday, a sweet potato and chorizo hash with over easy eggs on top. SO GOOD!

Was that at home, Nora, or was that out some place? Some place I really need to know about.

I’m responsible for my own happiness? I can’t even be responsible for my own breakfast! (Bojack Horseman)

Frank, we went to Red Rock Bistro in Swampscott: [link]

Excellent, excellent brunch. Also, super Bloody Marys. Right on the water.

Also, we went to Major Magleashes in Salem for a couple of pitchers on Friday night. Do you know that place?

Ah, yes, Red Rock - I've been there. That must have been a special or a new addition to the menu - it's been a few years at this point.

That other place I've been in maybe twice. It's not quite as scary inside as it looks from the outside, but it really didn't hold any interest for me (granted, that was also pre-smoking ban - you can imagine what it was like then). Cheap drinks, though.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I always have two breakfasts during the work week. Can't make it to lunch without them. Weekdays is hot cereal at home, and something pastryish (today is mini apple pies) at work. On the weekend I aim to have pancakes at least once. Mmm. Pancakes.

Just completed a semi-defensive response to my annual evaluation. God, when did I become average?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

"Single-family homes" barely exist here, and it's making me cranky. It's not as though I can afford to buy a home in this neighborhood anyway, but it would be really nice to at least have some *options* in-between the 1-br condos and the 5-family brownstones. I have no interest in being anyone's landlord, no matter how much financial sense it might make.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

There are companies that specialize in management of other people's rental properties. I'm not sure they'd handle a place that small, but maybe it's worth looking into.

I just had a late second-breakfast of instant miso soup from this company [link] Very nummy for an instant. The noodles are not dried, so that helps. Also, the bowl is made from corn starch and is biodegradable - it can even be composted.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Yeah, but if the tenants know the actual owner is living in the same building, who do you think they're gonna bug when their toilet backs up in the middle of the night?

It's a definite possibility. (Ideally, I'd love to buy the building I'm in now and convert it back to a single-family triplex -- right now it's 3 apartments -- but we're in a very hot neighborhood so I don't know if my landlord would sell.)

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

I have been happily inducted into the cult of the toaster waffle. It helps that I don't eat them with a fork and knife with syrup or anything, but out of the hand dry (but hot).

The whole wheat/Nutri Grain ones are especially good for this, because they're moister and more flavorful than the regular kind, so they work really well right out of the hand.
