We'll all go, if possible. It just doesn't seem to sink in that it might take more than a couple of weeks notice to scare up visas, airfare, and vacation time. We don't all have UN passports, dude.
Plus the wedding's been called off/postponed so many times that I'm kind of losing my enthusiasm, you know?

But my god, visas! And vacations! Bleah. There are, frankly, many places I'd go before China. Which makes me parochial, but I admit I prefer a place where I can read the street signs.

I didn't train again today. At least, that's what the instructor said--he never saw me, not at all. Best news? The other instructor said I looked good, that he'd pass me on what he saw me do. It's only maybe 1/4 to 1/5 of the syllabus, but that's a hugely good thing to know--I haven't trained on this stuff since the concussion three months ago. And January was always too soon for the test.

Of the 21 species of macaque monkeys, pigtailed macaques live in societies that fall somewhere between the despotic and egalitarian extremes. A dominant male and female run the show but conflict among other monkeys is common, if rarely extreme. Most such conflicts end with a third party intervening, usually in favor of one or the other opponent. But sometimes the most powerful monkeys literally stand between the two combatants and, occasionally without even threatening them, impartially resolve the conflict. It is this occasional policing that allows pigtailed macaque society to be more diverse instead of breaking down into warring cliques, according to new research.
