And the thing is, I like my evil like I like my men: evil. You know, straight up, black hat, tied to the train tracks, soon my electro-ray will destroy metropolis BAD.

Good buy!

We rode our bikes around Santa Monica today and I stopped at Lucy. We bought 2 long sleeved shirts, 3 pairs of yoga pants, 1 pair of socks, a timbuk2 bag, 2 camisoles for less than $100. CRAXY.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I bought these this morning. Less cute.

I went searching for the availability of Frank Bonham books (Viva Chicano is the one that stuck most in my mind, obviously, but I do remember reading Durango Street and Hey Big Spender too) to see if they'd live up to my memories. They fascinated me. And it's not until now that I'm realising that Los Angeles is..you know...Los Angeles. Placing the mystery foreign city of those books in space if not in time with where I live now.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

I just got these [link] at REI this week for about $55 on sale.

These [link] are silly, but I dig them.

Plei, Keens! YAY!

Hmmm... I haven't read Durango Street, so I dunno. But I do remember when I moved to DC and being like, "Huh!? THIS PLACE? I read about this."

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

Lawrence Block was probably 10% of the reason I moved to New York. It's still funny revisiting stuff I read/saw/etc. before I lived here (or wherever) and realizing I know the places they're talking about.

Kat! I was so happy to find a pair that fit me! The laces are what made them work. The slip-ons just won't fit over my arch, and the Mary Janes, which were cute, hit at a weird point on my toe.

The REI person said they run short, and suggested the 6.5 instead of the 6, and they're lovely. Now that I'm bussing to work, I found that I needed comfortable shoes.

Which means I should avoid these: [link]

My dad gets SERIOUSLY pissed if a phone goes off in his class. If they answer it, he kicks them out. I keep threatening to call him when he's in class. Empty threat, because about the only time he has his cell on is outside of class or when he's travelling (he also uses it for S&R, but not when he's teaching, only when he isn't at home.)

Darn you, Plei! Those are too cute.

I remember nothing I've read and little of what I'd seen set in LA until I got here. In fact, I've meant to rewatch Clueless and LA Story and the like. My memory is crap without context. I fell for LA one morning standing in Colin's driveway and listening to dogs and birds. I'd pretty much hated it all the other times I'd been here, but suddenly I knew I not only could live in LA, I pretty much wanted to.

Y Tu Mama was interesting. Both what I was expecting, and not. The biggest surprise was how tiny Gael and Diego are.
