"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Yay Encyclopedia Brown!

I've introduced Emmett to Encyclopedia Brown. His grandmother gave him a $100 gift certificate to Cody's Books and it is his intent to buy the entire run of Encyclopedia Brown with it.

In the original script for Pulp Fiction there's a riff on "the tough girl in Encyclopedia Brown" between Uma and Travolta's characters.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Huh. I may have tweaked the Random Fact Generator for PHP 4.4. Anyone have a Batman fact or two I can test it with?

What is Alfred's last name?

Where were Bruce's parents killed?

Not that sort of random fact. This sort.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

I love that Matt linked to Jane's site. Polgara, it looks fantabulous. Seriously.

Encyclopedia Brown was one of my childhood favorites. So great. It's where I learned the magic of cheating by boiled egg in an egg spinning contest.

Also, am a bit joyful today because there is CAKE in my fridge: triple chocolate mousse cake and a napoleon. From Porto's. Which is now down the street from me.

It's five thousand for kissing, ten thousand for snuggling... End of list.

Oh crap, I'm dying over the Chuck Norris thing again.

The Dinosaurs looked at Chuck Norris the wrong way once. ONCE.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

"My balls are the size of grapefruits."

Ow. Also, probably hard to find trousers that fit. It would be like being a woman of narrow waist and ample butt, except backwards.

The funny part about Encyclopedia Brown was how many stories were based on what the author expected "any kid" to know back in the day, which doesn't always translate to today. When I was 7 or 8, there was one where the girl-sidekick figures out the mystery (and Encyclopedia doesn't) because she knows that men don't wear petticoats. Now, possibly I would have known this at age 10 or 12, but at that point in my life I had no idea what petticoats were, so the Giant Obvious Clues went totally over my head.

It's odd that the 2007 Tour de France is going to start in London.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Meh. The lamb schwarma wrap I got for lunch was very disappointing, and I had to throw most of it out. And now I'm hungry again.

I think Kat should send me some cake.
