I get the text/email thing, too -- texting is in your pants! If you see what I'm saying. I think it's "generational," too -- it's noticable even among people just like five years younger than me that they use texting a lot more than I do.

I was informed the other day of a college guy's hierarchy of communications intimacy. He rated e-mail as less intimate than text messaging, and phone calls more than both. I know it's folly to quantify these things, but he presented it as common university knowledge. It surprised me, because I figure e-mail is more intimate than texting.

I can see what you mean, because you can give more thought to, and spend more time on an e-mail. As far as the mediums are concerned though, I understand his point. Maybe I'm even a case in point. I never text message. I got rid of all IM programs, because it required too much immediate attention and contact. E-mail is less intrusive.

What do you use when they'd be texting? Do you call, or do you e-mail?

I have a couple friends for whom texting is one of the primary methods of communication. Mostly I don't. It's very rare that I'm in a position to text when I'm not also in a position to e-mail. Cool thing about the Treo/Blackberry/etc people (of whom I'm not one) is that if they can receive a text message on their person, they can also receive e-mails. I likes me some e-mail. I can barely walk past one of my computers at home and not notice if anything's come in. And when I get bored and I'm out, I check it then too.

Man, I took a bunch of skin off my knuckles at cardio boxing yesterday. My form was mostly good, but I'm not used to punching plastic like that. Then I salved myself by using Batman bandaids, and evidently they didn't get enough air. The unbandaided knuckle looks a lot better than the other two. Gotta keep flexing and applying the Neosporin.

It varies. I get "I'm running late" texts, "what are you doing Saturday?" texts, "did you see XYZ?" texts, etc.
