Goodbye and Good Riddance 2005: the Year of the Penguin

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Christmukkah, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Oh, and 2005? Don't think we've forgotten about you.

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Apparently I have a double sekrit Santa because even though I didn't even sign up this year, there was a mysterious package waiting for me on my stoop this evening. Inside was a gift basket from the Cafe du Monde in New Orleans, one of my very favorite places on the planet. There's a can of New Orleans coffee (w/chickory), a box of beignet mix (which is timely, because I was running out), and a coffee mug.

There was an unsigned card, but no other clues as to who sent it, so this Santa is truly sekrit. Whoever it was, thank you so much. I love it.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

that's a paying job! Someone got paid to write bios for the Keebler Elves! Where do I apply?

I always wanted to write copy for the J. Peterman catalogue.

And yes, I know the whole Seinfeld thing. Still. Making up stories about clothes and objects--what could be more fun?

I wish I could just go somewhere to get flensed but none of the whaling ships near me take Medicare.

A good catalog copy writer is truly a joy. McPhee used to have a really good one (haven't checked their copy lately). Also American Scientific Supply (or some such thing).

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Allyson got a GOAT?!?

Dude. I seriously want a goat. Where do I get one?

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I want to know who writes the Tower Records radio commercials. Those crack me up.

I got a goat!!!!

That is awsome.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

heifer.org. Sadly for Allyson, she doesn't get her mitts on the goat--the livestock goes to people slightly more needy than herself.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Sadly for Allyson, she doesn't get her mitts on the goat--the livestock goes to people slightly more needy than herself.

Does she get a picture of the goat? Does the goat write her letters to tell her how it's doing?

eta: Is the goat for milk, or for food?

Dear Allyson. Tomorrow I get eaten. Thank you for letting me be your goat.

Yes, but they get eaten before they can be mailed. It's a vicious circle, but tasty if you're a goat.

brillig

I looked at the gifts on heifer.org. Maybe I'll send some folks a share of a water buffalo.
