We're getting a jackload of nonsense registrations. Not sure what the point of the dastardly scheme is, but it's at the very least annoying.
I know image captchas have been brought up before--I may just be oversensitive, but I suck at them, and don't like them as a barrier to entry. Someone suggested here something where an option that was invisible to the user, but visible to the automated agent was used to discriminate between the two, but I can't remember which.
Hell, one might be able to get away with a coyly asked question along the lines of "Are you human, Y/N, humans only, nudge nudge wink wink" to sift the wheat from the chaff.
What's out there? What are people doing to stem the flow of CRAP?
Per your request, DX, I'll nuke the filk email account, and I'll report back with the spam filter options that come with our version of Plesk.
And *that* took a metric buttload of time to post. Tom? What are your opinions of our server's health? Is it worth worrying about that much given an upcoming seemingly agreed-upon upgrade to the next version of Plesk?
Site being suuuuuuuper slow this afternoon for anyone else?
Yeah, I've had some issues.
I think it may be because of admin cleanup--DX, are you cleaning out the filk mailbox?
It's possible that me just going to see how much email was in the filk mailbox slowed us down that much. How incredibly painful.
I don't mind captcha as long as it's decipherable. I recently gave up on registering for something because after the third try I still couldn't figure out what the captcha was supposed to be.
Kitten captcha, maybe? Of course I'm already registered so it won't affect me one way or the other.
Tom? What are your opinions of our server's health?
I think we need more RAM.
I also think rebooting the server would help a lot in the short term, though.
I think we need more RAM.
One of our two upgrade options takes us to 1GB instead of 512MB. That will cost us $40 more per month than what we have now. The other option that keeps us at 512 and takes us from a 2.6GHz Celeron to a 2.5GHz P4 is an increase of $10/month.
What do you recommend?
As for rebooting, do you want to take that in your hands? You're better suited than I am to catch anything that didn't come up right automatically.
