What is even happening?

ita, I'm not seeing a difference in what you did, and what I'm suggesting, except that I'm suggesting more stuff get filed in folders. Right now, you have these folders:

  • Closed Threads

  • Film and TV

I am not meaning to suggest the technical-how of any of this.

I would just like to see the categories Liese mentioned:

  • Media
  • Creativity & Leisure

with the appropriate threads filed under them. Coding-wise, is that asking for anything different than what you've thrown up for now? You mentioned a few posts back that there's space in the DB for a slug and description, but that you're just not displaying them right now.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Which was as an answer to your question. If we need slug and description -- I can't tell you when it's happening, and I retract the recommendation.

However, this is hardly a representative group, so I'm not taking my toys and storming away now. In fact, I mostly want to move the stuff and deal with it then.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Yeah, I think that looks fine, ita. And there's no reason why we couldn't just move out the tv stuff and rethink the other categories later if it should prove popular.

So you would move into it: Minearverse, Firefly, B&A, Lost, Boxed Set, and the three spoiler threads? That's eight, right?

Okay, I hear you on this not being a representative group. I thought we were tossing the idea around to see how it might land.

As for the other stuff, we're suffering a disconnect (imagine?), I think, because I don't speak tech, and so I'm somehow suggesting stuff technically that I don't mean to suggest, when I am trying to just talk about the layout. I'm mostly suggesting we do what you've already tried out, but with more things filed away (granted, with the slugs, which I am taking may not be an option, at least not an immediate one).

I think if we just do a TV/Film subfolder, and it looks just like it does now, save the fact that a handful of threads will be gone from the index page, it will be hard for new users to find. There are too many threads before you get there, and it just looks like an after-thought. If I were new, I wouldn't necessarily see that, or get what it was.

All sorrows can be borne if you put them into a story. Tell me a story.

I would suggest we start with the Film & TV folder for now just because the category seems pretty straightforward (despite some of the above discussion).

My 2¢ on what is included in Film & TV is that any movie and/or TV threads be included. Even Buffy/Angel. I think who we are is pretty clear from the header. An extra click to find the thread won't change that. I would probably also include Minearverse.

Do you think people will scroll down that far, and find the link for the show and TV thread subfolder, though? I think adding a subfolder is only going to be useful if we get a lot more of the threads off of that index page.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh! I also wanted to mention that I really hope we don't change the order that threads come up in. It's really useful to me to have the most recently active thread on the top. I can tell where I need to go for the hopping conversation, even if I'm thousands of posts behind in the other threads.

I agree, that may be the next logical step. I just think deciding what-goes-into-what-folder and what-do-we-call-each-folder will take longer to agree on for the other threads.

eta I'm so rarely on the front page that I didn't realize the red bar said "Subfolders." It would probably be better if it said "Folders" but I have no idea if that is a simple edit or if it has to be that way because of the code.

How are you me? You need to stop that. Only I can be me. ~Kara

I think we should just let ita do what she thinks is best and then sit back and see if it works the way most people like it.

Did I miss something? Was this suggested too?

I can flip the subfolders to above the thread list pretty easily.
