Not up to date in this thread so sorry if this has already been posted but Buffy appears in a new web series.
Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!
Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.
University study on The Buffy Effect (warning: the comment thread is already awash in ignorant gits).
Did I miss a bit in that study where they measured a baseline so they're now talking about a delta?
ita, I've got your back over there. I've been spoiling for an internet fight what with all the mean-spirited stupid on display lately, so if people want to make a stink about Buffy I will stink right back at them.
Did my crafty disguise not work? Curses! Foiled again!
But, good lord, how stupid.
No, it's not the only way to be strong. But you're probably the sort of assholes that wouldn't recognise any other sort of strength in a guy, so why are you getting agitated now that you have to share?
Sadly, if you do another experiment with women displaying any other sort of strength, the results would probably be less marked, because jackholes like half of those commenters wouldn't notice.
JZ, thank you. That thread is fucking hilarious, with the handful of bile spewing trolls. They know a vagenda when they smell one, that's for sure.
Hm. The episode of Masters of Horrors episode used for its negative portrayals of women was "The Screwfly Solution," which seems problematic. Especially given that a horror program is actively trying to generate anxiety in the audience.
And the Buffy episode included for its portrayal of sexual violence was "The Wish" which... doesn't seem comparable.
The actual paper did at least note that it's difficult to find equivalent programs. The Atlantic summary is... muddled, to say the least.
Gilmore Girls is also a weird control, as it's very female-centric.
So Mark watched "Him." He's wondering if there's a lot of Xander/Spike fanfic out there. I giggled out loud, which is not advisable at work.
I'm amused it took him until S7 to wonder that, although I know he's said in past reviews that he's not a shipper, so if he doesn't watch through that lens, it does make sense.
