Zoe: Nobody's saying that, sir. Wash: Yeah, we're pretty much just giving each other significant glances and laughing incessantly.

'Our Mrs. Reynolds'

Buffy and Angel 1: BUFFYNANGLE4EVA!!!!!1!

Is it better the second time around? Or the third? Or tenth? This is the place to come when you have a burning desire to talk about an old episode that was just re-run.

Hm. The episode of Masters of Horrors episode used for its negative portrayals of women was "The Screwfly Solution," which seems problematic. Especially given that a horror program is actively trying to generate anxiety in the audience.

And the Buffy episode included for its portrayal of sexual violence was "The Wish" which... doesn't seem comparable.

The actual paper did at least note that it's difficult to find equivalent programs. The Atlantic summary is... muddled, to say the least.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Gilmore Girls is also a weird control, as it's very female-centric.

So Mark watched "Him." He's wondering if there's a lot of Xander/Spike fanfic out there. I giggled out loud, which is not advisable at work.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

I'm amused it took him until S7 to wonder that, although I know he's said in past reviews that he's not a shipper, so if he doesn't watch through that lens, it does make sense.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Elsewhere I saw a link to this comedian's spec Buffy script: [link] I'm assuming it didn't get him a job writing anywhere, given his IMDB entry, but it was interesting. I've read more Buffy scripts than of any other show, so they're easiest for me to read, by far. I can hear or not hear the characters pretty clearly.

Wow, there's a bit of not-hear in that script. And also Anya's not going to talk like that on actual TV.

Always Anti-fascist!

Specs can be a little edgier than filmed scripts, ita. Because their main point is to get attention. Not that that script works anyway, except for Xander.

If your point is to look like you can get the voice of a show and write within someone else's framework...nah. Why bother?

Yeah, I know...you're supposed to be fresh, but not that different...it's a tough line to walk.
