Aren't they something. They're like butterflies, or little pieces of wrapping paper blowing around.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

After a little rejuvenating Buff Diving, I've got to say -- it's a brilliant balance between things that are funny on their surface, and inside jokes/things that are only funny if you get the context.

I am still morning grumpy at 11:30. I think this may just need to be revised to general grumpiness.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

My sister has been homeschooling her kids, though she's sending her youngest to a t memfault charter(?) school (it's publicly funded but sort of private, I don't fully understand it (it's an Oregon thing, apparently)). Her oldest had to take a proficiency exam of some sort not long ago and scored in the 97th percentile, which is gratifying. Mostly, she thinks public schools are a bad experience that she wants to shield her children from, though I don't recall her hating school so much when we were actually, you know, going.

I'd consider homeschooling before private school, but that would only be if the available public schools were very very bad.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Welcome, Almare!

If I wanted to homeschool a putative child, it wouldn't be because I thought I'd be a better teacher mano a mano than many of the well-trained people out there. It would be because I was suspicious of a school system, or wanted the kid to get one on one attention.

This is pretty much me. There have been times in the past, even in the recent past, where I felt like homeschooling was the best option, especially for an unusually bright child. And I have issues with public schools that have nothing to do with teachers--I loathe the overemphasis on standardized testing in general, and Seattle schools in particular are suffering because of financial mismanagement. I don't feel good about putting Annabel in that environment unless something changes in the next four years. OTOH, I don't think I'd be good at homeschooling, because it'd be another one of those Perfect Mommy ideals that'd fall victim to the reality of my life as a working writer, just like homemade organic babyfood and cloth diapers never quite happened for me.

So. In the next four years we either need to move to a place with excellent public schools, or find a way to afford private school. Guess I'd better get cracking on that bestseller, huh?

Almare, could I get your e-mail address? You don't have an address in your profile.

If I only had a brain...

Coming in late on the wedding-gown thing: I shall never forget Miss Eli, in a fabulous strapless white pearl satin dress, wading waist-high into the pool, like the prow of a majestic ship.

Gnnrrrrrkkkk.

Was going to call in sick just because, um, I didn't want to go to work? I then foolishly checked my work e-mail and discovered that no one else in my department was going to be at work today, thus, I am in my office.

Due to the insane amount of work we received last week, I need to clean up the stuff what slipped through the cracks, or in other words, Deal With People Who Are Understandably Shirty With Me.

However, I am Avoidance, Yay! I think I need lunch and to find my happy place before I can do this without quitting.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.

I think I need lunch

I'm about to slip out of the office early and go have pancakes. I highly recommend this method of coping.

hivemind

I am trying to find out the title for a movie that I only ever saw the trailer for. It was a British film about 2 or 3 young people living in a flat and I think placing an ad for a flatmate. I can;t remember the explination, but I think they then kill the new flatmate and try to hide it. This must have been 5-7 years ago that I remember seeing the trailer. Any ideas? I don;t remember any of the actors.
