No, it's still raining here. Really. It's like we're our own weather system or something. Perhaps my distaste is finally forcing the snow to avoid us.

Off-topic discussion. Wanna talk about corsets, duct tape, or physics? This is the place. Detailed discussion of any current-season TV must be whitefonted.
Theo, I think we're the ones with our own weather system. In-laws to the north are reporting rain. You all are reporting rain. If not for DX, I'd think our town was the last place in NE getting snow.
Back from taking the cat to the vet. Other than losing a bit of weight, she's in good health. She seems to have forgiven me for the vet trip already.
Just got back from doing the same. Mine's put on a few pounds, and the little bare patch on her tummy that I just assumed was from when she was spayed last year? It's actually from obsessive licking, which means she's bored, which means I'm a bad kitty mommy! I feel really bad about this, and am resolved to invest big bucks in getting a tall cat-climbing tree-thingy that will take care of more exercise and keeping her entertained. I just don't know where to put it in my 1BR apartment.
Also, I have to put eyedrops into her eye three times a day for the next two weeks to try and clear up some chronic conjunctivitis that she's had since before I adopted her last year. She never sat still for me to put in the ointment the shelter gave me, so I have no idea how she'll put up with the eyedrops.
But, she is now chipped and her claws are finally trimmed, so it was worth the $212 for the checkup.
The suspect in the Atlanta courthouse killings has been caught.
Earlier, the search for Mr. Nichols suffered a setback - and the Atlanta police a public embarrassment - when a green Honda that investigators believed Mr. Nichols had carjacked and used in his escape was found in the very parking garage where he commandeered it, more than 12 hours earlier.
For much of Friday, the police had concentrated their efforts on trying to track down the car, which Mr. Nichols is believed to have taken at gunpoint from a reporter for The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Don O'Briant, as he was parking it. The authorities had issued an all points bulletin on the Honda, broadcasting its description and license plate number over television, radio and the highway alert network. But about 10 p.m. Friday, the car was found in the same parking garage, a level below.
Bad police detectives! No donuts!
I've been following this pretty obsessively, tommyrot, and so far they haven't come up with an explanation for that one that doesn't sound really stupid. They only had officers about every three feet downtown.
Ginger - I'm glad to see you posting. This morning, when I turned on the news, CNN was asking people who had friends/realtives in Atlanta to call them to be sure they were not being held hostage. It sounded a little hyped to me, but given that another person is dead, maybe not. Anyway, glad to see you posting.
Well, the article says that they had information that the car had left the garage. I suppose that the suspect carjacking a car and then abandoning it in the same garage just never occured to them (I'm sure the cops' emotions were runing high).
I'm not defending them; I'm just saying I can see how it could happen....
I also can understand how it could happen, particularly since he had hijacked three or four cars before. They were assuming he was in the last known hijacked car. Still, I bet they feel pretty dumb. So far, they don't know how he got from there to killing the customs agent around Lenox Square, which would be about five miles north.
Thanks for thinking of me, Stephanie. He did cut a pretty wide swath through Atlanta--several carjackings downtown, the killing near Lenox, and then being captured, including a showdown with a hostage, in Gwinnett County.
It's just starting to snow here, but I was out this morning and it was already cold and windy. I should go to the library, but I'm just starting to get cozy.
For the record, it's just started snowing in Somerville, really huge flakes.
More bulletins as things developed. I'm thinking of taking my laptop outside and posting, a la one of the local broadcast meteorologists....
