As of Thursday, it's estimated at:
Domestic box office to date: $23,126,690
International box office to date: $6,369,352
Worldwide box office total to date: $29,496,042
However the international figures are off by a bit.. A few days behind in most cases. By sunday, total worldwide will be around $32m. However, if the remaining international areas do drop the movie... It'll be off by further.
It needs to hit at least $80m for a sequel. Ideally $100m. There's a pretty huge gap, although eventually with TV licensing, DVD sales, other licensing etc, I think it'll make it back.
ETA: Pretty obviously, though, these aren't numbers for a sequel - unless the DVD does seriously huge business (much bigger than Firefly). Which, market factors considered... Guh.
Kat - if, for example, you'd said that I'd be like 'Uhm, that's really rude'. Because I don't know you. But that's just me.
Ah! See. I totally agree.
And when you spent time trying to school Buffistas in how the internet works with your implication that we should just suck up being linked, even though it's not part of our thing, or defining for us who we should be in the world according to you with a miniscreed on psueds or by telling us we're all part of fandom, I was like "Umm... that's really rude." Because you don't know us. And it wasn't just me that felt that way.
I was defining how *I* think of things. Not how things *should* be defined. People labeled me rude for linking something, and calling Nilly "Nilly". That's fine - I don't care, that's their opinion of how they persceive something (most things in life are subjective).
I don't know how many caught this, also, but there was an advert placed by fans in the Daily Variety:

Kat, please don't speak for me.

It's ironic that I'm doing this, but if you stop coming across as if you're dictating how others should behave/react, you may find yourself being dogpiled less.
eta - quote for context
Oh, I'm not, SailAweigh. I am speaking for myself.
But I am also observing how many people felt compelled to say something about being upset.
How am I dicating how others should behave/react, thegrommit?
ita, Kat said.
And it wasn't just me that felt that way.
I'm sorry, but this is an ambiguous enough statement to me, I did not know who was included in it. I just wanted to make sure that Kat was aware I was not one of them.
How am I dicating how others should behave/react, thegrommit?
The multiple instances of "if you post it, it's fair game" and the commentary about nicknames are two examples. In both cases you've staked out a position, then gone "I don't care" when called on it.
But then, that's just my "perception".
