Goodbye and Good Riddance 2004: Well, I Wasn't Expecting That.

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Christmukkah, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Oh, and 2004? Don't think we've forgotten about you.

I wrote a hugely long reflection about this year, but it's rather too long for this forum. I posted it in LJ instead.

The gist is this:

It was a hard year, but an important one. I have let go of a lot and am just now starting to redirect personal energies that had gone wildy awry. I feel blessed in my life, but I am ready for the immense changes I feel certain are coming in 2005.

Bring it on, baby!

To understand what happened at the diner, we shall use Mr. Papaya! This is upsetting because he's the friendliest of fruits.

I have no idea what to think of 2004. I think this is a year I'll only be able to judge in hindsight. Spent the whole damn time laying bricks--been in and out of therapy, nearly finished with the novel, started writing poems again, working my butt off at the paper and possibly working on new projects there, looking at Lea going into grad school next year and how to pay for that. Looking at California for a spell next month. Lost two ferrets. Missed friends' weddings and the birth of their kids. Didn't bury anyone close to me, which if you know my track record, is sometimes unusual. Closing out the year writing about Andy Kaufman, which is the coolest gig I've ever had. Bloody awful election, but it inspired a few new ideas--not payoff enough, no, but it's a start. New chapbook of poems coming out soon. Novel's nearly finished.

2004 was my Inbetween Days. I've got dozens of balls in the air, and have no idea where any of them will fall...

See, I think that 2001-2004 have been my Inbetween days. I think that's what it so exciting about the passage into the next phase.

The feeling you get when your brain finally lets your heart get in its pants.

For my secret santa: starting tomorrow, I won't be in the same place as my mail until Sunday, so please forgive any delays in squeeing this might cause.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

mmmmmmmmmmm, red currant.....

When I make a harvest tart (French creme patisserie, puff pastry) the top is covered in tiny champagne grapes, that have been glazed in melted red currant jelly.

To die for.

Our wings are not tired.

A very very pretty dreamcatcher

Pictures would be nice.

Now the currant talk has made me desire breakfast. Later...

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Guh. Deb with the food porn again.

I'm nearly ready to send out my SS, and determined to get it out before x-mas, but that mean mailing it on Friday so it's likely to be at least a little late. I'm still dying to open the box I got from my Santa.

ETA: Ooh, and I got a lovely card from Sail. Thankee!

My SS should get her basket today.

I didn't bother to make it anonymous because, well...shrink wrap. At this juncture, it would be a little pointless to try to pretend it isn't from me.

I hope she likes it...!

Punishingly Intricate

I hope she likes it...!

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I actually got it yesterday & despite its ginormousosity I almost missed it because it was hidden amongst the great pile of cardboard and paper sitting on my porch waiting to be taking the curb for recycle pickup today.

When Kristin told the Great Shrinkwrap Adventure of 2004 story I had a premonition that it might be my present (actually I kind of skimmed the story because I didn't want to get spoiled for my present, der). And what a beautiful bounty of shrinkwrapped goodness she sent. Amongst other things (cuz I know i'll forget something):

  • It's a Chick Thing book about women's friendships that has an essay by Dolly Parton in it so I know it must be good stuff.

  • A buttload of most fancy and wonderful chocolates--Lindt truffles, a toblerone bar, a dark chocolate with hazlenuts and currants (speaking of...) that I must wait to eat until I really deserve a treat that exceptional.

  • Some clementines and a grapefruit. yay Winter Citrus traditions!

  • Grapefruit and bergamot lotion. so yummy.

  • Grapefruit and thyme linen spray that I sprayed right on the dishtowel by my sink. Perfect!

  • a pear candle that I think will also go in the kitchen.

So so very nice. I feel so fortunate to be on the receiving end of such thoughtful generosity. Mwah!!!

(oh also enclosed was a Christmas card with the cutest picture of Kristin's very furry family. The Puppy!!! It's ear's all floppy!!!!)

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

SQUEEE!!!!! Nonian!!! I got it!!!

After many misadventures trying to connect with the UPS driver, I finally got my hands on a sent package from Amaranth. I opened it up, and the prettiest stained glass window I've ever seen was enclosed - The Notre Dame Rose. Wow. I'm going to have a lot of fun figuring out the best window to hang this in. Thank you!!!!!
