Goodbye and Good Riddance 2004: Well, I Wasn't Expecting That.

Every year we watch the Charlie Brown special, do the Snoopy dance, wish everybody a Merry Christmukkah, and thank our Secret Santas in the good riddance thread. Which is this one, in case you were wondering. Oh, and 2004? Don't think we've forgotten about you.

Sure I went over to the Dark Side, but just to pick up a few things.

To my Secret Santa: I'll be leaving for my parents house tomorrow afternoon. If you're sending it so that it arrives after Christmas, there should be no delay in me posting happy present news. If it arrives on Thursday or Friday, though, I'll have to wait until Monday to pick it up.

So come, my friends, be not afraid/We are so lightly here/It is in love that we are made; In love we disappear

But my 2004 was great because my boyfriend and I decided to get married and maybe possibly move to New York, where there are lots more jobs for people like me.

Oooo! Awesome Ms. Rio!

Wouldn't that put you closer to the Perfect Hairdresser, too?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

PLUS I got to hang out with erinaceous and meet Hec.

Definitely a 2004 highpoint for me. And that's in a year where I got married and had a book published.

And I got a cute haircut and some nice shoes.

Do you see the priorities, folks? Let Rio be an example to you all.

Good Trouble and Righteous Fights

Congrats, Rio!

Susan, aren't you part Creek?

Yep, on my paternal grandmother's side. And I have no plans to foment or participate in an uprising anytime soon. Well, not unless the government further whittles away at the First Amendment.

Anyway, I have my doubts about the phrase originating in Native American uprisings rather than streams above flood stage, because the former version just sounds too pat and specific somehow. Not that I can prove it either way--it just set off my urban legend sensors.

Mine too, Susan. If I weren't completely lazy, I'd check.

Art Crawl!!!

Perhaps you can leave the fomenting to Anabel, you know, in her quest for world domination.

It really doesn't matter. It's just an opinion. Don't worry about it. Not worth the hassle.

Hmmmm. Just snoped the phrase, and it comes back with nothing at all. Now I'm curious. But water flooding sounds way more real to me, somehow.

I sent my first of two packages Priority Mail yesterday. Here's hoping.

What is even happening?

I think water rising is probably the genesis for it, too. Either the coiner was trying to sound folksy or make a pun, or he learned it from folks.

Always Anti-fascist!

I could definitely see an uprising in my future. But it's like a birthday wish. If you tell, it won't come true.

She's well on her way, with her impressive crawling abilities and attempts to pull up!
