With a little over 40 votes in, I can safely say that we all like food.
Here is a thought I had, though. Each of those platters is 100 pieces. If we order 8 trays (to make our $1000 target), that's 800 pieces of food. If there are 50 people at Prom who eat, that's 16 pieces per person, which is a LOT for a cocktail party.
I wonder if we wouldn't be better served ordering a little less food, and insted putting the money towards an open bar for a few hours?
[eta: Or we could just order all the really expensive food....]
In NO we ordered a bunch of food and it didn't really get eaten. It was all very good, but there is a tendency for people to go out to dinner before the party or to have a late lunch. I'm in favor of the open bar for a few hours.
That makes a lot of sense. What do you guys think you're trying to do here? Make us all look intelligent, or something?
I like the open bar option, as well. That's really a lot of food, even for a crowd that's promising to be a good size.
I'll even make 'em stock something uber-dry and bubbly for me, since that's the only alcohol I drink. Heh.
but there is a tendency for people to go out to dinner before the party or to have a late lunch
Yep, that's what I was thinking. I think food is a great idea (because who doesn't love finger food, plus there will definitely be attendees who can't afford to eat out all weekend), but if it's a choice between an open bar and tons of leftovers, I think the bar would be a better use of our funds.
Are you hotel-ing or sofa-surfing?
Well, cheaper is better on my salary. I'm hoping to have saved a tad by then, but a sofa or a roomie would help if there are still those available.
I'm unlikely to book immediately, so I hit "undecided" on the poll for my attendance purposes.
Also, yay food, yay open bar, yay gorgeous gorgeous swag, yay Buffista parties.
Speaking of roomies, I have space in my room. I currently have a king reserved, but will change that to a double. Would love a roomie.
Also in favor of open bar.
Can I vote for BBQ Chez Grabien?
And I've been terribly remiss--what's the cover for prom?
