Tom and I are planning on contributing this week... would it be better to send a check, if PayPal are being bastiges?

F2F 3: Who's Bringing the Guacamole?
Plan what to do, what to wear (you can never go wrong with a corset), and get ready for the next BuffistaCon: San Francisco, May 19-21, 2006! Everything else, go here! Swag!
Chi, I think it ends noonish, but I'd start elevenish, so that people would have time to get to the airport.
Jess, huh. No prob - we'll just make sure there's lots of goodies upstairs in the hospitality suite.
I'll be at the ball game Sunday afternoon, so no BBQ for me.
I was going to Paypal, but if that's a problem, Julianna, can you e-mail me the new address so I can send a check? Thanks.
eta: Jess, that second link is pointing at b.org, not Mr. Poll.
I don't think there's any way of getting around the Paypal fees -- that's how they make money, after all.
Link is fixed now.
Does the Paypal fee depend upon what option you check when sending, i.e., quasi-cash vs. service?
Nope. It's 2.9% of the amount, plus $0.30 per transfer.
juliana, if the fees are getting to be a real problem, you might want to set up a regular account with a different e-mail address. Normally, there are no fees for receiving money, but you have a premium account, the major benefit of which is the ability to receive credit card transactions. The downside is a fee is charged for all transactions, regardless.
Otherwise, if people contributing want to take the fee into account, the equation is thus:
(V + 0.30)/0.971 = The amount you send so that juliana ends up with V
Yep - P-C nails it. That's why I always throw a few extra bucks into any paypal transaction I send out, to make sure that fee is covered.
Yeah, last year we lost a little bit of money to the convenience of being able to do things through PayPal.
Nah - it's not a problem. I'll make up the fees - it is nice to be able to do everything through the intarweb. I'll look at setting up a different account tomorrow - gotta run now.
