Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
(1) if I'm going to transfer data from my old laptop to my new iBook via a USB cable, should it be an A to A cable, or an A to B cable?
I'm not aware of any reliable method of transferring data between a PC and a Mac via USB, unless you want to buy special software, (which comes with its own cable).
Moving data between a PC and a Mac with an ethernet cable is pretty straightforward, though.
(2) I have DSL now. My iBook will have an AirPort Extreme card. If I want to use my DSL connection wirelessly, I need a router, correct? Like the AirPort Extreme base station? (Or a random other Mac-friendly router.) Do I need *more* than a wireless router?
That's all you should need.

Even better!

Dude. I had knowledge!
One more question: transferring data Mac to Mac (I have 8 GB of music on my G4 at work, and I'll be damned if I'm going to re-rip all that onto the iBook) -- USB cable? A to A? A to B? TGIF? OMGWTF?
transferring data Mac to Mac
Firewire cable. If you boot up your Mac, and hold down the "T" key, it will go into something called "Target Disk Mode", which means that the other Mac will think that it's an external firewire drive.
Firewire cable.
Right on. Am waiting to order my iBook until after Steve Jobs' speech at MacExpo, just in case prices drop (which I don't expect, since they just dropped back in November-ish) or they add a nifty new feature like iDishwasher or something.

I'm saying! Or iBartender.
I'd totally upgrade for a bundled deal. An iBartender that also does the cleanup. Complete with glowing Apple logo!
I'd like the iBartender/iMaid/iChef bundle.
iBartender/iMaid/iChef
Don't forget iPoolboy. Although at the moment, he only ships with the really high-end G5s, and not the laptops. Maybe after MacWorld.
