I loved Charlie and the guitar. I didn't see the white gem -- so didn't get the significance of the white and black stones.
I agree with JenP that there is no reason why they couldn't live at the caves and set watches on the Beach.

Yes, this. And I even had a hard time figuring how they'd get from that first flashback to the present within the episode. But they did, and I bought it. In fact, it slayed me in the end. Love that. Love.

Her boobs are tiny and that was the world's most virginal bra (which was awesome in itself, much like the mismatched bra & panties from her big ocean-bathing scene). But it was such a great line that I totally forgive the factual inaccuracy of it.
