Even just a few datestamps would have made me happy. The age makeup wasn't good enough for me to judge when things were happening in the last half of the film.

I'm afraid not. There is no recreational singing in this movie.
Word on the need for datestamps -- for some reason I totally forgot there were 1920s and 1930s in the mix, and was very confused when a montage whipped right through 15 years of childrearing in the middle of the movie. Also, we wondered after how Clyde had avoided the draft, and how the war would have affected the student body of UI Bloomington.
