Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned

A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Irreconcilable Differnences

Do you mean Intolerable Cruelty? (Which I thought wasn't bad, but didn't have much particularly Coen-y about it. It was pretty bland.)

I look more rad than Lutheranism

Excellent but atypical: Blood Simple

I've found there's an interesting subset of Coen Bros. fans who will insist until their dying day that Blood Simple is the Coens' best.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

That's it. See? I didn't even care enough to remember the title.

If for nothing else, Blood Simple must be rented so that one may listen to the hysterical commentary track.

That is interesting. They're wrong, but that's interesting.

I think you mean Intolerable Cruely. Huh, I think you might even like it, Hec. What about it made you not want to see it?

Shit's all sorts of different now.

The ones I have seen: Ladykillers, Raising Arizona, The Big Lebowski (I am the only person in the world that is "Eh" on Lebowski), O Brother, Intolerable Cruelty

Ones I haven't seen: The Man Who Wasn't There, Hudsucker Proxy, Blood Simple, Fargo

And for some reason, I always think A Simple Plan is Coen Bros.

Up with the sun

What Jessica said. Zeta-Jones and Clooney are both perfectly fine, and there are a few clever lines, but the film didn't especially stick with me.

I liked Fargo, a lot, and thought OBWAT and Big Lebowski were pretty good but not as great as people told me they were. Hated Hudsucker Proxy. Liked The Man Who Wasn't There, but fell asleep 2/3 of the way through, which I'm guessing means I didn't like it *that* much. Haven't seen any of their other movies. (I think. I always get Barton Fink mixed up with Glengarry Glen Ross, and I've seen whichever one had Alec Baldwin in it.)

I had to turn off Hudsucker Proxy after about 15 minutes. It was just annoying me too much.
