One of the posters in ita's link claimed to take it's art from what it called a spoiler - "Dude, Where's My Stapler" - which I had to confirm immediately, and quickly discovered was not true.
I did, however, find out that this movie cannot come out fast enough.

I just got back from a movie orgy afternoon. I went to see Hero and then snuck into Garden State on impulse.
I like Hero but didn't love it. It was very beautiful but it wasn't quite the movie I was expecting, I guess.
However, Garden State was the movie I was expecting and I loved it.

I'm terrifically busy with my ennui.
So 2001 was #2 on that list of sci-fi movies.
Is that one of those things that you had to see when it first came out, or had to see at the right impressionable age? Because maybe I don't get Kubrick, but I feel like you could have reduced that to about 30 minutes and had an interesting story.

I saw Garden State this afternoon. Such a beautiful, quiet, subtle movie - I think I liked it more than anything I've seen since The Station Agent. But I fear it's doomed... nothing particularly exciting happens to attract the mainstream audience, and it doesn't have a shocking or weird enough hook to draw in the art house crowd. Just wonderfully realized slice of life story and excellent acting. (Braff is amazing, and Portman proves that she still has it and Lucas can obscure any amount of acting talent.)
