I loved Fifth Element too. (But I hate carrots.)

Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
An interviewer once mentioned that Luc Besson had referred to the Fifth Element as 1/3 Brazil.
Terry Gilliam choked on his coffee.
I liked the Fifth Element an awful lot. Not purchasing-level liked, but I"ll watch it anytime I see it playing on a TV somewhere, at least for a while.
In other news, I adore carrots.
But I have not seen Resident Evil.
And now I must commune with the dolphins.
What does the color blue taste like? Bobo knows....
I have the love for The Fifth Element, and not just 'cause of Milla. I'm actually surprised, though I suppose I shouldn't be, that so many people hate it so much. It's so silly and entertaining and shiny and yeah, obviously cribbing from Brazil but without any of the, well, depth, but look over there! Luke Perry!
Okay, so I am easily won over by silly science fiction movies.
I like 5th Element (I think I may actually own it somewhere. I also have an mp3 of the Diva's aria that I heart.). It's so pretty, and looks like a comic book translated directly to film (even the transitions). The plot's rather along the lines of a stereo-typical comic book, too, I suppose, which means campy good fun, in my book.
big bada-boom. hee.
meara-ing:
Hero is great. I have the DVD and am really excited to see it on the big screen. Hepburn/Cary TOTALLY trumps Hepburn/Tracy. I (still) want to see Open Water . The only Milla movie I've seen was Joan of Arc, which sucked, but I think she's super cute.
Hey GC! Long time no see. How's things?
I know this isn't the regular comics thread, but Miracleman hooked me on Powers. I just finished Roleplay, and have to borrow the next book the next time I'm over at his place.
Hey, Sean :) Things are good - too much traveling for work but otherwise good.
Re: Powers. One of us! One of us!
(And I loved Fifth Element, but between AvP, Resident Evil, and Hudson Hawk, it should be pretty obvious that I will occasionally love a movie that has no Earthly reason to be loved)
scoots closer to Sean
In fact, tonight's deeply silly but oh-so-pretty movie viewing was Sleepy Hollow. mmmm, Tim Burton visuals and Johnny Depp.
