Right, right. See, I actually liked the God-works-in-mysterious-ways stuff, cause I've always been into that sort of trope. I overlooked the water issue.

Buffista Movies 3: Panned and Scanned
A place to talk about movies--Old and new, good and bad, high art and high cheese. It's the place to place your kittens on the award winners, gossip about upcoming fims and discuss DVD releases and extras. Spoiler policy: White font all plot-related discussion until a movie's been in wide release two weeks, and keep the major HSQ in white font until two weeks after the video/DVD release.
The aliens were allergic to water. Which they hadn't thought of before invading the planet covered in water inhabited by creatures made up largely of water where it rains all the time.
Maybe they didn't know water would melt them like the Wicked Witch of the West.
Besides, it's not like they went to earth for the fishing.

What was that movie and TV series that had the bald-headed aliens that had the blotches on their heads? Becase those aliens could be killed by water too (at least in the movie). Or maybe it was just saltwater?
Triffids could be killed by salt water. But they're not bald, blotchey headed or headed at all. They're plants.

Alien Nation, and yeah, it was just saltwater if I remember correctly.
Brings a whole new dimension to "wounded by her tears."
