I had heard that Joss was not planning to change the finale once the cancellation order came down. I wonder if that's true, since I can't see a season 6 with the line-up of Angel, Spike, Illyria and possibly Gunn.
According to this story, joss may have changed the finale a bit once the show was cancelled:

According to DH, Joss was really, really reluctant to give details on what exactly had been changed from the original plan. (And since most of the journalists on the conference call were unspoiled, he couldn't ask anything as specific as "Were you always going to kill Wesley?")
