I think one solution to the asking redundant questions that requires whitefont to answer would be to request the info backchannel. IJS.
Bureaucracy 3: Oh, so now you want to be part of the SOLUTION?
A thread to discuss naming threads, board policy, new thread suggestions, and anything else that has to do with board administration and maintenance. Guaranteed to include lively debate and polls. Natter discouraged, but not deleted.
Current Stompy Feet: ita, Jon B, DXMachina, P.M. Marcontell, Liese S., amych
Idea: What if we did a (nonbinding) poll to see what shows people are watching/plan to watch/would like to discuss, and then started threads for the top 2-4 votegetters?
I'd rather not start a new thread for something until the discussion is already there to warrant it. The natter whitefont doesn't bother me, but Lyra Jane makes a good point about losing some discussion time because if you're not right there for it, it's passed you by.
Like ND (and for similar reasons), I'm very rarely in Boxed Set anymore, though if a show had to be added there I guess Lost would be the one.
There doesn't seem to be a workable solution to the TV thread problem with the board in its current no-proliferation tech situation.
Michele, I think DX just said we should be okay to add a thread or two because the Angel and Buffy traffic is so far down.

I think what people are saying is that they feel the discussion/desire to discuss is already there, at least on Lost.

Yeah, I did, but we still haven't heard from ita on the issue, so you probably ought to take my pronouncement with a grain of salt.
The worst of the problems we had were more to do with a bug in MySQL than the number of threads we have. Adding threads will add more traffic, but OTOH, traffic is down in the show threads that we do have, so it's possible we could trade off.
Skipping to the end, just 'cause.
I watch almost none of the shows that are whitefonted. The morning after whitefont is a constant source of amusement for me. The amount of Natter space devoted to show chatter hasn't prevented me from tossing in an unrelated comment.
A general television discussion thread would be okay with me and I assume this would not result in shows never being discussed in Natter.
Huh, once again I find that I am in the agree with whatever camp. I'm just an agreeable kinda girl.
The morning after whitefont
Whoa. This makes me feel like I should be asking my television, "Was it good for you?"
Hmm. I *would* like to have a place where I could discuss some of the shows more than a handful of Buffistas are watching & interested in discussing--for now, that seems like Lost, O.C., Joan of Arcadia, Veronica Mars and maybe Jack and Bobby.
Huh. I watch all of those shows. Wow, I watch a lot of TV. But the void--the gaping maw of emptiness left in the wake of Jossverse shows is just way too big, man. ::sobs:: I need to fill it with... stuff!
I would not be adverse to discussing one or more of these shows in a separate thread, but I'd prefer it not to be the Boxed Set, which has evolved into a subcommunity of sorts since before the threads-merging.
As for the white-font issues... I don't think any of these shows are being shown overseas right now. Can't the General TV thread, if it is approved, be NAFDA like BtVs or Angel was? Or white-fonted only until the West Coast catch-up?

As a TiVo user, I can say that such a thread won't be one I go into. For me, it's white font or no reading as I timeshift merrily through life. Not to mention the HBO shows I may need to watch on DVD.
But that's not why you're here. You're here for a capacity answer. Yes, we can possibly handle it. I do not have my definitive hat on this morning.
As a TiVo user, I can say that such a thread won't be one I go into.
Hmm. OK. Haven't thought about that, since I tend to watch the TiVo'd shows pretty quickly--usually in the same night.
Then, even if we white-font only for a short duration of time--say, a week, to allow for tape-fairies and TiVo delayed-watchers and what-have-yous, we're basically gonna end up having a thread that's nothing but white-font. Yeap, that's be kind of annoying to slog through.
I don't much mind the whitefont, but clearly many people do, and I think that would be the main problem with a General TV thread. Because if we do whitefont all show discussion, people will be annoyed, but if we don't whitefont any show discussion, there's the large possibility of accidental spoilage. So if you missed Lost one week and had to wait until the weekend to see it, but you caught The O.C. at the regular time, you wouldn't be able to go into the General TV thread to discuss Teh Seth without being spoiled for Lost. I prefer the idea of seeing if there will be a couple of shows that generate a large amount of discussion, and dedicating a thread to each of those (if we can, of course).
edit: overexplainy, because xposty.
