I downloaded
Axxess & Ace
off of emusic a while back and wasn't impressed. I thought he sounded like Neil Young at his most boring.
But, I then I downloaded Magnolia Electric Co.'s
What Comes After the Blues
(not realizing it was the same guy) which I like much better. It's a full band and his voice sounds much more confident. It's much more country-rock than other stuff I've heard of his. Still very Neil Young-esque but not so boring.
One thing you can say about Jason Molina, he records a lot. A lot. A lot.
Now playing: Lots of Richard Buckner. At the moment,
Since.
It's a super rainy day here and Buckner and rain go together just about perfectly.
Oh hey, tina, I downloaded two CYHSY songs on your recommendation. I like the music a lot, but I'm not sure about the singer's voice. But it's certainly dang hooky, which is a point in its favor.
I'm not sure about the singer's voice.
Neither was I - but it grows on you. And the hooks - like CRACK they are. The best song on the album, imo, is not on their site for download. It's called "The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" and I think the album is it worth it just for that. I've had to take a break from it though, I was overlistening. (because - crack!)

I've never listened to any Neil Young, but "Farewell Transmission" is off the Songs: Ohia album...Magnolia Electric Co. It's with a full band; I think you'd like it. At least that song, can't say anything about the rest of the album.

:: weeps for p-c's deprived ears::
If you ever see
After the Gold Rush
or
Everybody Knows This is Nowhere
in a sale bin and feel like experimenting, they are great places to start and worth every nickle.
but "Farewell Transmission" is off the Songs: Ohia album...Magnolia Electric Co.
I am adding it to my emusic waiting list this moment.
Or Rust Never Sleeps or Zuma, which are also heartstoppingly great NY albums.

To which I say: Der??? What for is this acronym?

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. And see, I was TRYING to save myself the time of typing it.
(It's like "The Eternal Sunshine of the Way Too Long Band Name.")

The Pernice Brothers are psyched.
Heh, I just got the e-mail mentioning that from the Pernice Brothers list. Pretty neat.
The Pernice Brothers are psyched.
And they gave me a new tagline.
(For the record, it is: "There is no love triangle, love rhombus, nor love trapezoid. There is only love.")
