I'd like to hear something from them before I see them - so listening recommendations, personal anecdotes? All submissions appreciated.
It's not electric folk. It's more post-punk country. So think Bloodshot, but not too raucous. They only have two records - the original one which helped foment a lot of things like Bloodshot and gave Tammy Wynette punk cred, and the new one which is some twenty years later. I don't know anything about the new one, so if you get anything get Poor Little Critter In The Road. It's Dave Alvin sitting in with John Doe and Exene and pretending they're the Carter Family.
Of course, with the CJ's lassitude, you wouldn't have to run for your life so much as stroll away quickly, and you'd be fine.
"Amble For Your Life" would be such a good song title. I think Fountains of Wayne should do it.

Gotta get me back to the sunny side
I'm going to see Tegan & Sara tonight and The New Pornographers on 9/29. They are both playing the Henry Fonda, which makes me v.v. happy as I'm sick of The Knitting Factory and I don't like the El Rey.
Yay Tegan and Sara! Have a great time! And if they ask for requests, ask for "Painting Songs" or "Star Money." It will make you look really cool and knowledgeable.
Got tickets to see Jandek's first live U.S. appearance ever here in Austin.
Tegan & Sara? I envy you.
Damn my brother! Damn him!

I'm leaving tomorrow morning to go to Vermont for his wedding. He called me just now and asked me if I could go to the indie record store around the corner from me (Shake It Records), to pick up a reissue of a local band's CD. I said sure. Then I looked at their website, particularly their page of Shake It exclusives.
I want EVERYTHING on that page! Particularly the Dresden Dolls and Death Cab CDs. And the Jamie Cullum CD. And possibly System of a Down. I'm going to end up spending about a billion dollars there.
Shake It exclusives.
Why do they call them "exclusives"? Some of those are pretty widely available.

I know, right? Perhaps they mean that, of Cincinnati's music stores, only Shake It has them. That's all I can figure.
