I just found a little goldmine.

Today's obsession is Andrew Bird and following a link on his website, I got to the in-studio performance archive page for 89.3 Minnesota Public Radio.

It's streaming, not .mp3s. But what a collection: Bird, Rilo Kiley, Ted Leo, Eels, Bob Mould (doing Workbook-era stuff), Mercury Rev, Robbie Fulks, Leo Kottke, M.Ward, the Shins, Lou Barlow, Low.

I know what I'm listening to this morning.

ETA: The Rilo Kiley is jaw-droppingly good. Jenny Lewis' voice is so amazing. Great interview with Bob Mould and he plays a song of his new album (Body of Song - "Paralyzed") and it sounds (thank you jesus!) like OLD Mould. So good.

I've got two of his earlier albums, Oh The Grandeur and The Swimming Hour. Ya gotta like a guy who can write a song titled "Tea and Thorazine."

I just downloaded the Swimming Hour from emusic this very moment. (Sidenote: The guy I am sorta kinda maybe seeing right now went to highschool with him.) His set at Intonation was the best of the day.

In other news - I just used iTunes 4.9 to download this morning's Breakfast of Champions and it was SO DARN EASY. I love it! (Before 4.9 you had to use this little pod application - still easy, but iTunes is a easier.) Jon played "Casimir Pulaski Day" and the band of the week is Jesus and Mary Chain - WOOT!

I kinda love slow-at-work Fridays when I am in a music hungry mood like this and have bandwith to burn.

a) There is a statue of Casimir Pulaski on the Boston Common

b) There is a section of the Southeast Expressway near the Boston Globe named after Casimir Pulaski.

Now that you say that I bet the Pulaski Skyway (if you've gone through the Holland Tunnel you probably went over the Skyway on the Jersey side) is named after him. <Google, Google, Google> Yep. "When it opened in 1932, the Pulaski Skyway earned design accolades from the American Institute of Steel Construction, which bestowed on the skyway the honor of 'Most Beautiful Steel Structure' among long-span bridges." It's either gone downhill or didn't have much competition.
