Is that the one that JZ kept playing in the car when I was out there? I would never have guessed it was by the Dixie Chicks.
That's the one.
I'd love to hear Glenn Campbell tell stories. Before his solo career, he was the first call guitarist on The Wrecking Crew - the LA studio musicians who played on literally thousands of hit records. As Fred Pete notes, he played on numerous Beach Boys records (and even went on tour with them). Would also love to talk to Jimmy Webb, a very interesting songwriter and producer.
Now thinking about Stereolab doing a Jimmy Webb album...
T Bone Burnett is like unto a music producing god.
Damn! The Cold Mountain soundtrack is stunning. I haven't seen the movie but listening to this just about made me cry (OK, so I cry VERY easily...but still).
Just fantastic. Oddly, the only song I didn't love was the Alison Kruass and Sting duet that is nominated for the Oscar. Everything else is reach through your headphones and shake you fantastic.
Especially the two songs by the Sacred Heart Singers and the acapella track by Cassie Franklin. Jack White's songs are really fantastic as well. Mmmm. The original orchestrated score tracks (there are four composed by Gabriel Yared) are beautiful but they take you right out of the ethereal bluegrassy civil war mood set by the vocal and fiddle tracks. That's the only reason I would say this isn't as good as the O Brother Soundtrack. Still really beautiful and worth buying if you like the bluegrass though.

No plans for additional dates.
Here is my last vestige of hopefullness about this reunion:
They are doing these dates to get back in festival-headlining shape for Coachella - I mean the drummer has been a
professional magician
since they broke up.
So - say they had announced 45 dates across the US only to find out that they really sucked. That'd be bad. A better idea is to do the small theater thing and if they can pull off the big fest, make lots of money and perhaps even have fun and like how they sound - then they can schedule more dates.
They opposed this reunion so much for so long - they can't be getting back together JUST to play 11 dates in NA, open for the freaking Chili Peppers in Europe and sell a compilation album. Right?
So - I think everybody who has been waiting for this since it was announced just has to see how it goes. I still kind of can't believe it is happening at all.

I'm getting a kick out of them playing the Burton Cummings Theater. (Burton was the lead singer with Guess Who. Imagining Black Francis tackling "These Eyes" is entertaining.)

They named a theatre after Burton Cummings? Is there a Randy Bachman highway? Hospital? All-you-can-eat buffet?
Heh. Joe and I latch onto the obscure GuessWhoiana.
And oddly enough we're both shakin' all over.
And oddly enough we're both shakin' all over.
See now, I'm already to go off on some really obscure Guess Who song like "Glamour Boys" or "Life in the Bloodstream" but that would just be wasted effort.
