This is so odd to hear. Hec listening to country?? WTF?? It seems so...wrong, somehow.
Well, you know I am all about challenging the conventional wisdom on music and trying to use my ears rather than marketing labels. Besides, I've always liked George Strait, had Shelby Lynne records when she was still doing straight country and it was no big leap from Emmylou to Rodney Crowell and Roseanne Cash. So I've been dipping my toe into whatever was current in country from time to time.
I'm curious, do you like The Dixie Chicks, Hec?
I'm curious, do you like The Dixie Chicks, Hec?
Sure. I have Dixie Chicks records from before Natalie joined, when they were a quartet and wore cowgirl outfits.
That's right - I remember you telling me that. I think my brain has left.
ION BETTE MIDLER IS COMING TO TOWN!
Actually, I've been thinking I should send you some of that. Their song "Pink Toenails" seems like a very Aimee song. Also, they did stunning four part harmony a capella versions of songs like "You Send Me" and "Bring It On Home."
Their song "Pink Toenails"
Is that the one that JZ kept playing in the car when I was out there? I would never have guessed it was by the Dixie Chicks.
cornflakes
Actually, my ex's ex really was a Kellogg's cornflake girl. She has dark red hair and is very wholesome looking and there was a whole print ad campaign featuring her with a bowl of cornflakes, lettsee, it must've been in the late 70's.
But I dropped by because today's Fresh Air is with the guy who wrote Wichita Lineman, and Tie a Yellow Ribbon and zillion others. I only heard half of it, but the guy's' SO engaging! very fun interview.
Glen Campbell?
"Justice Was Back When the KKK Lynched People From Oak Trees" song.
That made my worst of 2003 list. Why has Willie forsaken us?
Oh, Jimmy Webb. That makes more sense.
