We can come by between classes. Usually I use that time to copy over my class notes with a system of different colored pens. But it's been pointed out to me that that's, you know...insane.

Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

How about the "Way down inside.." moment from "Whole Lotta Love"?

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Virgin Megastore Report

Payday! Woot. Also, The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou is out in a Criterion edition. As is typical with Virgin, new releases are usually priced to move and I got Life Aquatic for $21.99. It's listed at $32.99.

Attention Music Buyers!

Virgin is currently having a thoroughly insane sale culling stuff from their Import section. I don't know if it's SF only, but I suspect they're cutting back heavily on imports everywhere. Anyway the prices are "please take this away we don't have the storage space." There's certainly plenty of junk in the bins, but there were also some amazing finds. Your best bets are on collections. I got 2003's The Sound of The Style Council for $5.99. Marked down from $22.99. Picked up the import only Best of R.E.M. for $5.99, marked down from $22.99. Cosmic Rough Riders Enjoy The Melodic Sunshine for $3.99, marked down from $16.99.

Dude, I could turn a profit selling these back to Amoeba they're so cheap.

They didn't have The Adventures of Pete & Pete. Maybe it's not out yet.

Jilli Alert

The Cure's 2nd-5th albums, including Pornography have been reissued in 2-CD deluxe editions with tons of extras.

Also, notable, Lucinda Williams Live At The Fillmore and X Live in Los Angeles. (recent reunion show).

Looked for the recent Orange Juice compilation but couldn't find it.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

I like emusic.com, too, but I miss covers & liner notes, esp. detailed credits.

I'll be gone for a few days, & will post my unusual love song when I get back. Have a great weekend!

A fellow makes himself conspicuous when he throws soft-boiled eggs at the electric fan.

Spoon is on emusic! Oh, life is goooood.

I am so in love with "I Turn My Camera On" that I can't even articulate it. When I am supreme ruler of the world every musician and band will be forced to do at least one song that just sounds like Prince.

Not to be a giant Jon fangirl (though really, what's so wrong with that?) but I am listening to a podcast of last Friday's Breakfast of Champions show right now AIFG! And so easy, who knew? When you download iPodder (the program that manages the podcasts) you get a strange little welcome message from Adam Curry, he of way-back-when MTV VJness and recent podcast revolution starting. Who would have thought that guy would resurface with something so cool?

Spoon is on emusic! Oh, life is goooood.

I know! They were just on the late late show and were not all that great, actually. Erin, you should download M.Ward's cover of "Let's Dance" from the album Transfiguration of Vincent on emusic. The whole album is good, but that track is such a remarkable take on a Bowie classic. You will like.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Christgau's still a Go-Betweens fanboy:

THE GO-BETWEENS
Oceans Apart
(Yep Roc)

Robert's songs more tuneful in their maturity, Grant's more atmospheric, they punch 'em all up to make a stronger impression than on their comeback album, thus proving that it was one. Settled down in real life, Robert recaptures his peripatetic past with a clear conscience and a sharp eye; still questing, Grant couches his romanticism in instrumental subtleties that soften his detachment. Robert so fond, Grant so elusive, both so beguiling, they're deeply civilized for the leaders of a working rock band. And for just that reason they can follow the calling until that distant day when strumming itself is too much for them. A

tina, thanks! Covers = good. Bowie = good. Bowie covers? = doubleplusgood.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

Covers = good. Bowie = good. Bowie covers? = doubleplusgood.

I have so many Bowie covers, it's nearly unseemly. How about Blondie doing Heroes?

You always do this. We get tipsy, and you take advantage of my love of the scientific method.

Congratulations Jim and Penny, and welcome Seth John!

I hope the labor wasn't difficult.
