Here's a good article about their new album
Gimme Fiction
being the "break-out" CD for Spoon from yesterday's NYT.
And a downright gushing review of the album from Pitchfork is here.
I don't have to work today, so I might go buy it. Fun!
(This is an odd place to ask but...also...I have an interview for a kick ass job Fri. round 1:30ish - any spare job-ma would be much appreciated. Thanks!)
Go get that job, Tina! And yeah, the new Spoon album is good. I prefer Girls Can't Tell but could change my mind at any given moment.
Go get that job, Tina!
Gracias, Corwood. I'm gonna try. (I
really
want it and am getting my hopes up way too much...).
But anyway - I am so glad I checked emusic this morning because lo and behold the new Spoon is available there! I am so over having to have the actual CD and artwork in my hands - I love emusic and the instant gratification/cheapness of it all. In 5 minutes the whole album will be on my iPod and I'm still in my jammies. I am so glad they seem to be adding good labels/artists/CDs on a daily basis and doing so well.
P-C. I don't know if you'll be in Texas at the time, but Justin's looking for people to be in a Max Cady video.
Get ready for your close-up: Max Cady needs fans to appear in the band's music video for the song "Tonight Alive," which will feature a mix of live performances and shots of "fans at home, singing and rocking out." The only requirements are that rockers must be in the Dallas area (or willing to come to the Dallas area), be "very uninhibited in front of the camera and know all the lyrics to the song."
If you're interested, I can give you J's email. It's in the article, but I didn't want to reprint it here.

I am finally listening to Arcade Fire
for the first time. (Emusic just got the entire Merge Records catalog - WOOHOO!!) And I totally get what FAQ girl means about the unearned climaxes. But I still really like it. I am so behind...they are like
so five months ago.
Next Merge CDs to download - M.Ward,
Transfiguration of Vincent
and after that a bunch of Din. Jr. that I don't have anymore....
::does little chair dance of new music joy::
ETA: After listening to the new Spoon twice, I highly recommend it. But so far, I am with CI -
Girls Can Tell
is better. But I also agree that my opinion could change with a few more listens.
I totally get what FAQ girl means about the unearned climaxes.
You remember what I posted a lot better than I remember what you posted. :^P
I'm trying to think of earned (musical) climaxes.
Hmmm. Roger Daltry's scream in "Won't Get Fooled Again" - that has a nice buildup. And then there's....Hmmm.
It's not just that they have unearned climaxes. It's that they attempt them so often.
