Buffista Music II: Wrath of Chaka Khan

There's a lady plays her fav'rite records/On the jukebox ev'ry day/All day long she plays the same old songs/And she believes the things that they say/She sings along with all the saddest songs/And she believes the stories are real/She lets the music dictate the way that she feels.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

I saw Garbage tonight. Beyond being one of the best sounding shows I've ever seen (not a big surprise given the guys in the band are all studio geeks, but still a pleasure to get a loud show that doesn't kill your ears or sound like shit), and that, aside from a few deep album cuts from records 2 and 3, they played every damn song I would have wanted to hear, there's, well, Shirley Manson. Guh. Mega-guh.

The woman is a stone, smoking hottie, with that sex-ay Scottish burr, great gams and not a lot of shyness about flashing her knickers. Given the show we got at the back of the house, the people right at stage front were definitely getting a whole extra show on top of the music. Favorite non-musical moment? Shirley cutting down some guy in the audience who was doing something disruptive; she started by asking "Are you being naughty?" and went on from there.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Major envy, Frank. I have "Sex Is Not the Enemy" stuck in my head right now. That's a catchy song there.

Avalon - sold out show. We were clustered near one the tables with a good unobstructed view because one of our group was having problems with a respritory infection.

I knew that topless lady had something up her sleeve. - John Prine

Funny interview with the Bobs today on Soundcheck. As host John Schaefer said, "Who knew 'Helter Skelter' was such a happy song?"

Speaking of Soundcheck, I had it on at work the other day wasn't paying attention until they introduced the band & a buddy of mine was playing bass. Anyone know a band called Hem? I looked at the website & there's no mention of my friend so I assume he's either a hired gun or joined recently. I usually like bands he plays in, but it's hard to pay attention at work & hard to make the effort to listen at all outside work, so if anyone knows & likes the band please speak up; the kick in the pants would be appreciated.

David, this could be your favorite Fresh Air interview since David Johansen: 'Lipstick and Dynamite': The World of Lady Wrestling, featuring the documentary's director and the Fabulous Moolah. Was she the model for one of the Love & Rockets characters or just a general inspiration? Btw, the first half of the show's worth listening to. It's an interview with rodeo champ/Deadwood consultant Gary Leffew, the Zen bull rider. Don't know anything about him except what was in the interview but he seems like a mensch.

The generation that could change the world is still looking for its car keys.

I ADORE the Bobs. They were the 1st concert (non-school related) I ever saw. "My Shoes" is an anthem of my youth.
